Jimmy Fallon’s Blackface Chris Rock Impression From “SNL” Has Surfaced Again
The internet’s most annoying and misleading hashtag convention, #[fillintheblank]isoverparty, strikes again. Every time I see that hashtag I try to ignore it but know that by the end of the day morbid curiosity will eventually lead me to clicking on it only to be disappointed to find out that [fillintheblank] farted on a kitten or something equally banal. Today it was the end of Jimmy Fallon’s career that was being smugly and gleefully celebrated on Twitter after a 20-year old clip of him doing a Chris Rock impression in full blackface on Saturday Night Live resurfaced. According to The New York Post, the clip was posted with the caption “NBC fired Megyn Kelly for mentioning blackface. Jimmy Fallon performed on NBC in blackface,” which is simply exhausting. With everything going on in #thesesupremelyfuckeduptimes, re-litigating blackface is definitely a party I’m not RSVPing to, I don’t care how socially distanced it is. I’m so very tired.
The “One World: Together At Home” Concert Happened Last Night
The One World: Together at Home global concert event happened last night, featuring a ton of celebrities who, at some point, got tired of staring at the wall and instead decided to mic up, find the part of their house that looks the least opulent, and croak out some of your favorite karaoke tunes (mostly, sans fards) in real-time. It raised more than $127 million to fight coronavirus, and yes, Ellen DeGeneres found a way to piss people off… during a charity show. It’s a gift!
A Writer Says Working For “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Sucked
My absolute favorite thing in this miserable world is when someone says “fuck it”, and spills the entire behind-the-scenes gossip about their crappy workplace. So, today, my hero is former Jimmy Kimmel Live! writer, Jack Allison.
Billie Eilish Might Have Dragged Jimmy Kimmel While Accepting An Award
A little over two weeks ago, 17-year-old Billie Eilish appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Jimmy Kimmel is 52 years old, and he decided to quiz Billie on some pop culture moments from the year he was 17, which was 1984. Jimmy isn’t the first to think, “LOL Gen Z doesn’t know stuff that happened two decades before they were born,” and I’m sure he won’t be the last. Billie didn’t know who Van Halen was, which made the audience laugh. That moment went viral on the internet the next day, with people either continuing to laugh or coming to her defense (like Eddie Van Halen’s son Wolf Van Halen).
Billie could have clapped back like your average 17-year-old by hissing “Ok boomer” at Jimmy under her breath. But Billie isn’t your average teen – she’s a very famous, Grammy-nominated teen. Instead, she subtly addressed the situation on Saturday while accepting an award.
Joaquin Phoenix Is No Christian Bale When It Comes To Onset Diva Tantrums
You really can’t take one step across the internet without tripping on some kind of headline about that Joker shit. We’ve heard about how the families of the Aurora shooting victims are worried that the movie may plant the seeds for more violence and asked Warner Bros. to push for gun control. And that Joaquin Phoenix ran away from an interview like it was soap after he was asked if Joker could inspire shootings. And the military is on high alert over this mess, the police are stepping up their presence at some screenings, and reporters were banned from the premiere for obvious reasons. There’s a lot more “Ands” I can add, but you get the point.
Well, I guess Warner Bros. wanted to counter all those serious headlines with some fluffiness, so they threw Joaquin into Jimmy Kimmel Live!. But when you mix together the light cheesiness of a late-night talk show host and the uncomfortable sheepishness of a ~*sErious THespiAN*~ like Joaquin, you get a bowl of awkward. And things got even more awkward when Jimmy Kimmel pulled out some Joker outtakes of Joaquin throwing a little fit after the cinematographer, Lawrence “Larry” Sher, wouldn’t stop whispering about Cher!
Sean Penn Reads Mean Tweets On “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”
You know that Celebrities Reading Mean Tweets segment on Jimmy Kimmel‘s Jimmy Kimmel Live? We all love it, we all enjoy it; it’s cute and fun to watch people with way too much power, money, beauty and fame read awful things being said about themselves–which were likely previously approved by their publicists as not “too mean”. It’s called leveling-the-playing-field-not-at-all-but-sort-of. Well, Sean Penn didn’t want to just be one of several celebrities reading one or two mean comments in a montage. He wanted the full attention of the hatred. And Jimmy Kimmel obliged.
