Sean Penn Reads Mean Tweets On “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

You know that Celebrities Reading Mean Tweets segment on Jimmy Kimmel‘s Jimmy Kimmel Live? We all love it, we all enjoy it; it’s cute and fun to watch people with way too much power, money, beauty and fame read awful things being said about themselves–which were likely previously approved by their publicists as not “too mean”. It’s called leveling-the-playing-field-not-at-all-but-sort-of. Well, Sean Penn didn’t want to just be one of several celebrities reading one or two mean comments in a montage. He wanted the full attention of the hatred. And Jimmy Kimmel obliged.

57-year-old Sean Penn took time out of his busy day of slugging around with his ancient girlfriend, 27-year-old Leila George to make an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel’s show. Looking like a troll doll whose flat-ironed up-do had completely fallen by the end of a rough night out, Sean told Jimmy that he thought reading the tweets backstage without an audience wasn’t fair. It wasn’t the tough guy thing to do, or whatever. So instead he wanted to read off the list live on Thursday’s show.

You know Sean busted out those reading glasses–literally–and then he read himself to filth. Mean comments included:

“Sean Penn seems like he’d stab me for no reason and then immaculately stitch my wounds while telling me about his time in Haiti.”

“Sean Penn’s just mad that he looks like the inside of a banana skin, but you didn’t hear it from me.”

“Sean Penn you rude. Dumb rude and full of farts. You stank Sean. Real time stanker.”

Honestly listening to Sean read that last one was actually funny. Now I have to say, I’m highly disappointed none of the mean tweets referenced his alleged abuse of women, or the fact that he dates young women who weren’t even born when a lot of his movies came out, but I guess the producers didn’t want to make things awkward. Oh well, maybe next time.

Here’s Sean reading semi-mean things about himself:
