Chaka Khan On Working With Ariana Grande (Again): “She’s Good On Her Own”
It’s been a while since we’ve had a proper musical icon tell us exactly how it is by smacking down the hopes and dreams of young pop stars everywhere. The one and only Chaka Khan––10x Grammy winner, perennial Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominee, funk/soul legend––has been DOING IT for years. She’s seen it all, she’s heard it all. So, by now, the 67-year-old is comfortable enough settling into a routine that does not involve collaborating with any new hot young things. Luckily for us, she’s not afraid to say so. And while the tension over this latest “exchange” between Chaka and Ariana Grande is not quite at the level of Aretha vs. Patti, or Mariah vs. J.Lo, or Dionne vs. Beyonce (yet), it’s still delicious and thick enough to drizzle over pancakes.
Lady Gaga Delivered Over-The-Top Masked Fashion Activism At The VMAs Last Night
I am aware of how redundant it is to describe Lady Gaga’s choices as “over-the-top,” since everything she does is over the top. In fact, if she hadn’t gone full-Gaga at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards last night, today’s headline might be something like, “Lady Gaga worries humanity by keeping her look subdued and restrained, and only doing one costume change.”
Open Post: Hosted By Ariana Grande’s “Midsommar” Themed Birthday Party
Oh, that Ariana Grande! Such a hip and totally down to earth girl living permanently on the absolute cutting edge. Seriously though, throwing birthday parties after the age of 21 is just stupid. And giving them themes is a level of narcissism that I can’t even begin to comprehend (I’m just bitter because nobody came to the Little Women-themed New Years party I threw last December). But, never one to miss an opportunity to take cute, grainy photos of herself, Ariana brought her love of the 2019 horror movie “Midsommar” to a whole new level this weekend.
Here’s How Some Celebrities Said “Black Lives Matter” Over The Weekend
I don’t know about you, but I had a perfectly good and normal weekend curled up in a fetal position in the shower glugging down a bottle of special occasion “End Times” wine in between racking sobs. Basically, I didn’t do shit. But as Kristian mentioned earlier, quite a few celebrities spent the weekend out in the streets with Black Lives Matter, protesting police brutality, spurred by the recent murders of George Floyd and Breanna Taylor by the police. Some of them didn’t even post about it on social media, they just showed up! But many more took to their notes apps instead to express their solidarity with the BLM movement. Billie Eilish took aim at #AllLivesMatter types telling them to “shut the fuck up.” And Lady Gaga came for Donald Trump, accusing him of “fueling a system that is already rooted in racism.” And the always outspoken Pink!, well she just re-posted Billie’s post. But it’s the thought that counts! #thoughtsandprayers.
Lana Del Rey Defended Her Comments Again, This Time Adding FKA Twigs To The List Of Women Who Have It Better Than Her
The artist formerly known as Lana Del Rey (I’m stripping her of her vaguely ethnic curly cues, she’s plain old Lizzy Grant again as far as I’m concerned) spent Memorial Day Weekend as most glamorous people do— recording a video denying she’s racist and doubling down on her victimhood. Yesterday, Liz posted a lengthy video on Instagram defending the controversial comments she made about “the culture” last week, adding FKA Twigs to her list of women she faces a double standard against and reiterating “the need for fragility in the feminist movement.” Then she unfollowed Ariana Grande on Instagram. Guys, she’s just a glamorous person. What more can I say?
Lana Del Rey Posts ANOTHER Instagram Note Addressing Her Previous Instagram Note
Earlier this year when Lana Del Rey turned up at the Grammys rocking what looked like a $40 Chico’s dress and makeup that she clearly did herself in the bumpy cab ride over, it seemed pretty obvious that the girl has no stylist. Well, apparently she also doesn’t seem to have a publicist because nobody is stepping in to stop her from tweeting her career down the toilet. If anybody in the LDR camp is listening: head over to Lana’s bedroom, turn down the Doja Cat record, slap the Marlboro Lite out of her hand, and take her phone away!
