Open Post: Hosted By Kathy Hilton Reapplying Her Lipstick On Stage During Mariska Hargitay’s People’s Choice Awards Acceptance Speech
Anyone who’d been under the impression that Kathy Hilton’s awkward, dim, and out-of-touch rich lady antics were reserved for her quirky and dysfunctional The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills persona would be incorrect; because Kathy also just brought her awkward, dim, and out-of-touch rich lady antics to the 2022 People’s Choice Awards stage. Last night, Kathy and a few of her RHOBH castmates took the stage as presenters, but when it was time to take a few steps back for Mariska Hargitay to give her acceptance speech for “drama TV star of 2022,” Kathy either forgot where she was or gave no fucks about decorum as she applied lipstick while on stage–also while on camera.
Not really sure why, but 2022 has marked the return of the Revenge Dress, whatever that is. At least it’s a less gruesome resurgence than the Revenge Body Khloe Kardashian tried to bring back post-Tristan Thompson, whatever that means. But there is a time and a place for a Revenge Dress and apologies to Olivia Wilde, but it is not the People’s Choice Awards, whatever those are. However, according to E! News, Olivia channeled Princess Diana last night by having “her very own revenge dress movement” when she stepped out on the red carpet with her nipples showing for her
first second red carpet appearance since breaking up with Prince Harry (Styles) three years weeks ago. Now don’t get me wrong, showing your nipples is a great way to get revenge, but the PCAs? Against Him? Honey, no. Generally speaking, that angry bearded man with the gloves in that GIF is always right, but in this case, I’m gonna have to disagree and say that, at the People’s Choice Awards, for once, the rent is too damn low!
Last night, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson won The People’s Champion Award at the People’s Choice Awards. In his acceptance speech, he reminisced about working with his idol, Muhammad Ali, at the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Then he called a very surprised teenager named Shushana to the stage. Turns out Shushana is a Make-a-Wish recipient whose dream was to come to the People’s Choice Awards. The Rock said he was inspired by her story of survival, and gave her his People’s Choice Award statue. Shushana seemed touched, and was far too polite to admit that she’d actually requested to go to the VMAs. Thanks a lot, Make-a-Wish!
Kim Kardashian Thanked Kanye West For Introducing Her To Fashion While Accepting Her People’s Choice Award
Last night Kim Kardashian “won” the Fashion Icon of 2021 “award” at the People’s Choice Awards. She wore a black bodysuit from Balenciaga’s Spring/Summer 2022 collection and those sunglasses you get after laser eye surgery. The future is now! In her speech Kim thanked her probably-soon-to-be-ex-husband Kanye West for introducing her to the fashion world, and the audience cheered and applauded. Because it’s the audience at the PCAs. And they’re stupids. Continue reading
In a twist that feels like it was cooked up by irony, Ellen DeGeneres won the 2020 People’s Choice Award for Best Talk Show, for Ellen, a show which has spent most of 2020 defending itself against allegations that it’s the worst talk show (behind the scenes, at least). The show was virtual, due to COVID-19, and I’m sure host Demi Lovato would have happily accepted the award on Ellen’s behalf if Ellen would have rather spent the evening relaxing in one of her many expensive temperature-controlled rich lady swimming pools. But Ellen clearly didn’t want to pass up the opportunity for some live televised damage control, because she showed up in person to collect her award, which she shares with her amazing, wonderful, spectacular, benevolent, forgiving, kind-hearted staff.
Last night Demi Lovato hosted the 2020 People’s Choice Awards, surrounded by a virtual audience of People’s Choice “superfans” who laughed and cheered after every sentence of her awkwardly paced opening monologue. It was some dystopian Panem shit. “Now, children, make sure you cheer nice and big for President Snow, or you’ll be sent to the Hunger Games and hunted down like rats!” In the monologue, Demi discussed how she spent her quarantine, and joked about her broken engagement to Max Ehrich. Errr, actually, “joke” is a strong word. She referenced it.
