BTS Are Beginning Their Mandatory Military Service In South Korea
Back in June, fans of BTS got some rough news: the K-pop supergroup was taking a lil’ break to focus on “solo projects.” Yesterday, the situation worsened. The band’s record label, BIGHIT MUSIC, announced they will be on hiatus until 2025. It’s not so Jin can leave the others in the dust and become the next Harry Styles/Justin Timberlake/Beyoncé; it’s so each member can complete their mandatory military service in South Korea. That’s right, all able-bodied South Korean men must serve in the army for 18 months by the time they are 28 years old. In 2020, parliament passed a bill allowing pop stars to defer until they turn 30. Welp, Jin turns 30 in December, so he’s up first. Somebody get that boy a Phantom of the Opera mask STAT; he can’t risk scarring that beautiful face!

Introducing the eighth member of BTS: COVID-19. Coronavirus has done it this time! NBC News says that three members of the K-pop supergroup have tested positive for Coronavirus. The BTS Army is about to mobilize to attack. A virus isn’t worried about the World Health Organization trying to stop it with all their teams of doctors–but angry teenagers? Nothing is safe from them!
New Edition And New Kids On The Block Faced Off In A Battle Of The Boy Bands At Last Night’s American Music Awards
The 2021 American Music Awards happened last night and was hosted by Cardi B, who I’m amazed didn’t reveal another pregnancy because she loves to do that. But she did crack jokes and managed to screech “My underarms itch!” in her opening monologue, so that happened. But more importantly, there was music at the American Music Awards (shocking) and we were treated to a plethora of acts. Including a reunion-slash-battle between two classic boy bands, New Kids On The Block and New Edition.

McDonald’s teamed up with Korean boy band mega-group, BTS, to create a limited-edition meal. The “BTS Meal” went on sale this week and each meal has been personally shoved up the ass of a member of BTS. JK, it’s just a normal meal with promo packaging. The meal includes a 10-piece Chicken McNuggets, medium fries and Coke, and also introduces two new dipping sauces to the US market–sweet chili and Cajun. It’s the first celebrity collaboration to go on sale globally, and guess what? That BTS-hysteria has people already selling their wrappers and bags on eBay. How absolutely, stupid… And with that being said, if you excuse me, I’m gonna go to McDonald’s and order some BTS meals to resell and pray the bags aren’t too greasy to turn a profit.

The American Music Awards saw celebrities descend on the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles to sing and dance (and lip-sync) their hearts out. It was nice to see things returning to normal as the celebrities were actually in the same room together (albeit spaced out insanely among the huge venue). And also like normal, they were ripping each other off. Jennifer Lopez found herself to be in the hot seat and was the controversy of the evening over her potential thievery of aesthetics from one Beyoncé Knowles-Carter. Much Like The Socially Distanced Celebrities, The Fashions Of The MTV EMAs Were All Over The Place
The MTV European Music Awards were yesterday and the show was a virtual socially-distanced affair like most award shows these days. It was not held in one single city and instead film from locations all over the world. Even though award shows look different now the celebrities have quickly acclimatized and have started perfecting the green-screen red carpet. As such the celebs stunted from their mansions and garages and private islands (I’m just assuming) to serve award-show chic!
