Angela Bassett Gets Love From Fans After Her Reaction To Losing The Best Supporting Actress Oscar Goes Viral

March 13, 2023 / Posted by:

Everything Everywhere All At Once seriously slapped down its competition last night (and not in a Will Smith kind of way) by cleaning up at the Oscars. It added to its awards show haul with Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director (for The Daniels, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert), Best Original Screenplay (The Daniels), Best Actress (Michelle Yeoh), Best Supporting Actor (Ke Huy Quan), Best Film Editing, and Best Supporting Actress (Jamie Lee Curtis), for a grand total of seven wins. But while some wins for EEAAO were a shoo-in (Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor), others didn’t seem as much of a lock. Going into last night’s Oscars, it seemed that the Best Supporting Actress win was going to go to either Angela Bassett (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), Jamie Lee Curtis (EEAAO), or Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin). Jamie Lee, of course, got the Oscar. And Angela Basset’s reaction to losing out on another Oscar got attention with some feeling for her, while others called her “rude.” And yes, those “others” should remember their diss tweets for when they get to the Gates of Heaven and are locked out due to daring to drag THEE Angela Bassett.

Ariana DeBose And Angela Bassett Have Responded To “The Thing” That Was Done At The BAFTAs

February 27, 2023 / Posted by:

Initial reactions to Ariana DeBose’s opening number at last week’s BAFTA ceremony went from “what is happening?” to “Oh God it’s still happening” to “what just happened?” over the course of two, very long, short minutes. Unfortunately, Ariana’s performance received so much negative attention that the BAFTA organization came forward to defend her. But then something magical happened. Upon repeated viewing, as the bizarrely staccato line, “Angela Bassett did the thing” wormed its way into our brains, making itself a cozy home there nestled amongst our cerebral folds, seemingly overnight, reactions to Ariana’s rap ode to the ladies of Hollywood became “It’s a hit!” And a star is reborn. Even though Ariana was bullied into deactivating her Twitter account, today she’s standing in her truth to say — “I had a blast!

A BAFTA Producer Defended Ariana DeBose’s Opening Rap After Twitter Dragged It

February 21, 2023 / Posted by:

Sunday night’s BAFTA Awards featured a opening musical number performed by Oscar-winning triple threat Ariana DeBose. After host Richard E. Grant (mmmm [just me?]) kicked off the show with a monologue, 32-year-old Ariana burst onto the stage with her back-up dancers and sang “Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves” and “We Are Family”. OK, sure! But it’s what happened next that shook viewers to their core. Ariana transitioned into an original rap saluting the award show’s female nominees. By this point, our gal was out of breath. As she struggled to spit out lyrics like, “Hong Chau, Dolly de, Kerry and Carey with a C!”, the BAFTA director insisted on cutting to every woman Ariana namechecked. Their reactions ranged from unimpressed (Ana de Armas), concerned (Kerry Condon), to politely supportive (Emma Thompson). Even though the performance was a damn mess, the BAFTAs believed it was “iconic,” and posted a clip to their Twitter page. Big mistake, HUGE. Twitter did what Twitter does, and completely eviscerated poor Ariana and the rap. Continue reading

Mary J. Blige, Keanu Reeves, Zendaya, Joe Rogan And Kris Jenner All Made The Time 100 List Of The World’s Most Influential People

May 23, 2022 / Posted by:

Last year Prince Harry and Meghan Markle graced the cover of Time Magazine’s annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world and since then, have done jack shit in the way of influence. They were featured in the Icons section, but those tricks can’t even launch an Instagram page let alone a revolution. So Time gave them the year off to get their shit together and Mary J. Blige has taken their place as the face of the Time 100’s Icons section. Mary shares the honor with Issa Rae, Keanu Reeves, Jon Batiste, and Adele plus a couple of people who actually worked for the accolade. And because you can’t even get the “Uh” out of Adele without James Corden popping up out of nowhere like a singing telegram sent by the devil himself, James wrote Adele’s intro and used it as an excuse to brag about her “singing in the kitchen, or belting at the top of her voice solely to make [his] children laugh.” It’s like, we get it, James, she’s your bestie. But if she’s so influential, then explain what happened to your career?
