Ryan Murphy Says He Reached Out To Families Of Jeffrey Dahmer’s Victims, But Never Got A Response
Have you watched Netflix’s Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story? I have not. At first, it was because it looked way too scary. Then, a bunch of Jeffrey Dahmer’s victims families spoke out against the show, saying that they weren’t contacted or consulted beforehand, and my refusal to watch jumped from “me scared” to “I have PRINCIPLES (sometimes), thankyouverymuch!” Now The Hollywood Reporter reports that co-creator Ryan Murphy is claiming he actually reached out to 20 of the victims’ families and friends, “and not a single person responded to us in that process.” He says the show had to rely on “our incredible group of researchers.” Um, sorry, Ryan, but if all these people left you on “Read”, that’s them refusing to be a part of your show. And, maybe, just maybe, that’s a sign you shouldn’t make the show. No? Just me?
“The Crown” Hater Dame Judi Dench Was Reportedly In Talks To Play The Queen Mother In Season Five
Advantage: Dench. But at what cost? Yahoo! News reports that thanks to Dame Judi Dench’s op-ed that ran in The Sunday Times admonishing Netflix for playing fast and loose with the facts on its hit show The Crown, the network has capitulated and added a disclaimer under the season five trailer indicating that anything you might hear or see about, for example, King Charles III’s menstrual product fantasies in relation to Judi’s friend Queen Consort Camilla, is merely a “fictional dramatization,” of events that may or may not have occurred and been committed to tape for all the world to hear. Now, the only “crude sensationalism,” as Dame Judi so haughtily put it, Netflix can be accused of is leaking the fact that Dame Judi herself had been in talks to play The Queen Mother this season, but reportedly turned it down, in part, because they weren’t going to pay her as much as Imelda Staunton CBE, who plays THE QUEEN.

But, it seems like the best the universe could do right now was ANOTHER damn Teletubbies reboot after threatening us with it a while back–so get your sleep masks and earplugs ready for when your kid insists on watching it on repeat and subsequently exclaiming, “EH-OHHH,” but you’d rather maintain your sanity–because they’re vaxxed, back, and ready for action.

As we know, The Palace’s ass is already puckered over what might be depicted next season as The Crown catches up to more modern events. And now, with the premiere of season five fast approaching, former British PM Sir John Major (played by Jonny Lee Miller) has come out strongly against a plot point that he thinks is going to play out in an upcoming episode involving King Charles III, formerly known as Prince Charles (Dominic West), whining to him that his mom THE QUEEN (Imelda Staunton) won’t abdicate the throne to him. I’m like, Sir, get your priorities straight. Jonny Lee Miller has actual lips! I mean, they’re still British, but they’re there.

Although Netflix’s Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story has become the streaming service’s second most popular original series (behind season four of Stranger Things) since coming out last month, the show hasn’t been without contention around how the creators handled the sensitive nature of the tragic events it depicts. Family members of Dahmer’s victims spoke out against the show, saying they weren’t contacted or consulted beforehand and that Netflix only cares about making money. Some viewers said they felt sick while watching it. Now, some who’ve seen it are complaining that the plot was causing people to feel sympathy for Dahmer; but Ian Brennan, who co-created the series with tragedy-glutton, Ryan Murphy, says that notion is simply not true.

Because the current era has been unkind and unworthy of encapsulating and all of the universe’s original thoughts have apparently already been thunk, nostalgic reboots and spin-offs are at an all-time high. Paramount+ is reviving Frasier, Vh1 is bringing back The Surreal Life, Hocus Pocus 2 just unleashed hell in homes everywhere, and Netflix’s announced addition to The Addams Family franchise, Wednesday, is coming to Netflix next month. We already knew that the Tim Burton-directed series would star Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán as Morticia and Gomez Addams and that Jenna Ortega would play Wednesday. We also saw the cast in a teaser trailer, but a freshly dropped trailer revealed that Fred Armisen is Uncle Fester. We also get to see that Christina Ricci–who, as a child actress, played Wednesday in The Addams Family and Addams Family Values movies–has a role in the upcoming series as well.
