King Charles III’s Big Day Featured Crowns, Joanna Lumley, And A Yawning Prince Louis
If you’re a Brit, then I’m sure your vocal cords are sore (and not in a sexy way) from loudly chanting that oath of allegiance to King Charles III on his Coronation Day. Or your vocal cords are sore from loudly snoring while sleeping through King Chuck’s Corny because you don’t give one shit about it. Whatever the case, King Charles and Queen Camilla’s bloomers filled with panty pudding royale today as they were crowned during the scaled-back three-day Coronation event that is costing British taxpayers ONLY $125 million. King Charles and Queen Camilla’s crowning ceremony happened at Westminster Abbey today and featured a spotlight-stealing cameo from little Prince Louis and a quick appearance by Prince Harry, whose ass is already on a plane back to California for his son Prince Archie’s fourth birthday.
Dame June Whitfield, Who Played Gran On “AbFab,” Has Died
Dame June Whitfield, accomplished British thespian and “Gran” from Absolutely Fabulous, has left us. She was 93, and the BBC reports that she died peacefully in her sleep. This is sad because anyone related to AbFab dying means they can’t appear in any future episodes. AbFab should be forever. AbFab is what got some of us through the late 90s. And Dame June as the lovable, flaky, “thieving old person” Gran was perfection. It probably wasn’t easy playing opposite comedy icons Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley as acid-tongued fashion desperate Edina Monsoon and her icy, vodka-soaked sidekick Patsy Stone. But Whitfield pulled it off and then some. Gran can’t be gone! *wails*
Joanna Lumley Would Like You To Know That Catcalling Is A Compliment
Picture, if you will, Patsy Stone walking down Bond Street and all of a sudden she’s met with a loud whistle or an “Oi, love!“. Unless it’s coming from a hot bricklayer wearing nothing but a trowel or a giant talking bottle of Stoli, she’s probably going to mutter “Piss off, sweetie darling” under her breath and keep on walking. Not Joanna Lumley, though. Joanna Lumley thinks getting hollered at on the street is flattering and would really appreciate it everyone stopped being so damn offended by it.
There Were A Lot Of Fabulous People At The “Absolutely Fabulous” Premiere
Case in point, former Hot Slut of the Day AND Month and fabulous icon for dogs everywhere GARY FISHER! You know a movie premiere is major event when A-list celebrity dogs are invited. I bet Amanda Seyfried’s famous pooch Finn called up his agent immediately after he saw this picture and barked them out for not scoring him an invite. Gary came with his human, Carrie Fisher, and her daughter, Billie Lourd. Billie has the right idea. Rather than attempt – and inevitably fail – at trying to yank some attention away from Gary, just accept it and guide everyone’s eyes to the true star of the family.
There was also some fabulous non-dogs at the premiere for the Absolutely Fabulous movie too. The premiere was held earlier today in London, of course. And if there’s anything I know about British people, they are really good at bringing ten tons of tacky glamour to an event. Let’s take a look at some of the best, shall we?
Joanna Lumley Says That Patsy Stone Is Transgender
I know that was probably some sort of promotional red carpet selfie Twitter paddle (?) that they thrust into her hand, but they made her look crazed.
Wasn’t this a known quantity? In an interview with V magazine (via Huffington Post), actress Joanna Lumley referred to her queer icon character from Absolutely Fabulous, Patsy Stone, as “transgender.”
Joanna was talking about how the show was gay, gay, gay from gay..I mean day one.
“You go back and pick through it, the amount of gay references and ease with which it’s been put into the story, without it being dragged along like a great log of plot,” she said. “It’s really normal that one of [Edina’s] ex-husbands now lives with his young boyfriend. It’s completely normal that [Edina] wants Saffy [Edina’s long-suffering daughter] to be a lesbian or that Serge [Edina’s long long son] is gay and living in New York.”
She then added, “It’s completely normal that Patsy is transgender.”
Yeah, we know. Didn’t Patsy transition in Morocco in the 60s? (13:20) And then “it was only for a year and then it fell off”? Is the movie going to reveal that she transitioned twice? Why are they trying to play with a rabid AbFab fan like yours truly?
I’m all for it. I’m all for Patsy Stone doing whatever in anything. She should have been an Avenger. Marvel should be so lucky. (Although, I’m not sure you can make The Avengers any gayer.) In fact, I hope they release a docu-comedy of Patsy drunkenly staggering her ass down to North Carolina and using any damn bathroom she wants, annoying overly dramatic pinheads statewide!
