Mainly due to the fact that instead of being chock full of jokes, it’s more packed full of hot takes that goes over well with the “middle-aged front-facing camera selfie taken in a drivers’ seat while wearing wraparound sunglasses” community. Dave talks a lot about the LGBTQ+ community, with stress on the T. Dave believes that the trans community is trying to “cancel” him for what he says in The Closer, and has only agreed to meet with his haters under conditions determined by Dave himself. Though he is in possession of an embarrassment of riches and fame beyond compare, Dave Chappelle is the victim of a cancellation most cruel. Gone are the heady days of universal adoration and praise his jokes once inspired throughout the land. In a video taken at a sold-out show in Nashville, Tennessee, this elder statesman of stage and screen has offered a message to “that community” (“the LBGTQ [sic] community”) that is trying to “cancel” him for transphobic remarks he made in his Netflix comedy special, The Closer, which prompted a protest by some Netflix employees. Dave says he’s willing to talk to them, but only if they meet his demands. And this hostage taker is all “Don’t move or Free Speech here takes one to the head!”

When Elon Musk fled from California to Texas last month, he didn’t waste any time immersing himself in the local color. Last week Elon on his alien progeny incubator Grimes hung out backstage at Stubb’s BBQ in Austin where Dave Chappelle and Joe Rogan have been headlining a multi-night residency. What a guest list, sounds like a blast, I know! But there was one party guest who got out of hand and rudely jumped down Dave’s throat. That guest was coronavirus, and now it’s taken up a residency inside Dave Chappelle. TMZ reports that Dave is so far asymptomatic, so let’s hope COVID resists the urge to perform Dave’s signature “fuck your couch” bit on his lungs.

Saturday Night Live happened as scheduled on Saturday night, which was generous of them, as I think everyone at home would have been satisfied with a live 90-minute broadcast that was just the cast and crew getting drunk on stage while Alec Baldwin lit his Donald Trump wig on fire (with maybe a 10-minute break for the Foo Fighters. After all, they were kind enough to make the trip).
But the show went on as planned, or at least whatever could be worked around the biggest same-day last-minute update of the past four years. That would be the news that Joe Biden was announced President-elect and Kamala Harris as Vice President-elect, which also means Jim Carrey and Maya Rudolph remain employed for the next four years. That also means Alec Baldwin’s Trump won’t be needed for much longer, and he’s okay with that.

Tonight is the big, 85-hour-long Emmys main event, but because there are approximately 9,876,988 Emmys to give out, the Creative Arts Emmys have been happening all week long. Nicole Byer hosted the five-night event, and she was up for the Emmy for Outstanding Host For A Reality Or Competition Program, making her the first Black woman to be nominated for that award. But RuPaul won that Emmy, as Nicole stood by thinking, “They got me to host this shit and didn’t even give me the Emmy?!” No, apparently, Nicole knew she was no match for Ru!
Kanye West Thanked Dave Chappelle For Flying To Wyoming To Check On Him
Crisis averted! Dave Chappelle flew his ass all the way to Wyoming to check in on Kanye West. Kanye shared a video of himself, Dave, and a few other brothers, thanking Dave for coming to check on him after last night’s tweet storm. Sure it looks like a hostage video and Dave keeps trying to slink away from Kanye’s repeated attempts to get him to make a joke, but it’s no worse than that scene in Goodfellas where Joe Pesci asks if he’s funny like a clown. It’s just a bunch of guys having a laugh after one of them has publicly called his wife a whore and her mother a pimp!
