The Man Who Attacked Dave Chappelle Has Avoided Felony Charges But Was Hit With Several Misdemeanors

May 6, 2022 / Posted by:

Earlier this week, Chris Rock got a major case of Groundhog Day when he saw his friend and fellow comedian Dave Chappelle take a surprise hit by an audience member at the Netflix Is A Joke Festival at the Hollywood Bowl. Dave Chappelle was on stage performing when a 23-year-old man named Isaiah Lee rushed the stage and tried to take down Dave. But why crush bones when you could crush Dave’s spirit by being the person to shout, “I’m Rick James, bitch!” at him for the 8 millionth time. Isaiah was quickly beaten up by Dave’s security team (and it was originally reported that Jamie Foxx and Busta Rhymes got a few hits in, but Dave’s rep denies that). Isaiah was arrested. And he won’t be facing felony charges for the incident, but less-heavy misdemeanor charges.

Dave Chappelle Got Attacked Onstage At The Hollywood Bowl

May 4, 2022 / Posted by:

Comedians are going to have to enroll in some hand-to-hand combat classes or at least take a crash-in-course chancleta-throwing from a seasoned abuelita. Because last night Dave Chappelle became the latest comedian to get the Whoop That Trick treatment from an angry audience member. The Hollywood Reporter says that while Dave was performing at the Hollywood Bowl for the Netflix Is A Joke Festival (“What a fitting name” said all the writers who just got fired by Netflix, etc, etc…), an audience member rushed the stage toward the end of his set and tried to take him down. Dave’s attacker reportedly had a replica gun that shoots out a knife blade (what in Rambo hell…). Dave was not injured, but his attacker was after Dave’s security team, with help from Jamie Foxx and Busta Rhymes, beat the dude down.

Dave Chappelle Objected To A Housing Development That Included Affordable Housing At A Village Counsel Meeting

February 10, 2022 / Posted by:

At a Yellow Springs, Ohio village council meeting, several of the village’s approximately 3,700 residents stepped up to the mic to oppose a planned development that included provisions that would provide “duplexes and affordable housing along with single-family homes in a 53-acre area along Spillan Road at the south edge of town,” according to the Dayton Daily News. The most notable of those residents opposing the plan was Dave Chappelle, who had his own plans to build a restaurant and comedy club called Live from YS in the area. Dave was vehemently opposed to the plan and threatened to pull all his investments from the community if the plan went ahead as proposed. When the council voted, they nixed the plan to include affordable housing which means the developer, Oberer Homes, can now proceed with their previous plan that includes zero affordable housing options. If this is how Dave feels about affordable housing, I shudder to think how he feels about affordable drink prices at comedy clubs. Come to Live from YS for the yuks, stay for the $20 well drinks and 5 drink minimums!

Patton Oswalt Defends His Friendship With Dave Chappelle After Getting Called Out On Social Media

January 3, 2022 / Posted by:

Patton Oswalt recently made the very real celebrity social media misstep of assuming that an innocent selfie with another famous person was going to end in tons of likes and self-esteem-boosting comments. Because Patton recently posed for a picture with his good friend Dave Chappelle, and if you remember anything about Dave Chappelle’s notable achievements from last year, then you know Patton’s picture was received poorly by some people. But! Patton would like you to know that he can be both an LGBTQ ally and a friend to a comedian who has delivered some problematic takes directed towards the trans community.

Dave Chappelle Visited His Old High School, And It Was Kind Of A Mess

November 26, 2021 / Posted by:

Dave Chappelle hasn’t been having the best time lately, PR-wise. You know, because of his poorly-received hot takes about trans people from his Netflix special The Closer. Also in The Closer, Dave noted that he doesn’t “give a shit” about all the voices trying to get him canceled on Twitter, because “Twitter isn’t a real place.” So what does Dave do when he wants to connect with the people and Twitter is out of the question? He swings by his old high school and shoots the shit with the youth of today. Except as Dave found out, some of the youth don’t much care for his jokes either. Not everyone was thrilled with Dave’s visit, which apparently only triggered Dave more.

The Recording Academy Defends Marilyn Manson’s Grammy Nomination

November 24, 2021 / Posted by:

Yesterday, the 2022 Grammy nominations were announced, and Marilyn Manson, who has been repeatedly accused of sexual assault and misconduct by several women (most notably Evan Rachel Wood), was nominated for his contributions to Kanye West’s album, Donda. No, you can’t get nominated for participating in shameless publicity stunts; Marilyn Manson provides vocals on the song “Jail pt 2.” Also nominated for a Grammy yesterday was Louis C.K., who you may remember as the man who admitted to jerking off in front of unwilling participants, was nominated for Best Comedy Album, for his latest album Sincerely Louis C.K. Naturally, those choices had some people questioning the Recording Academy, and the Recording Academy has come back to utter the age-old creep-excusing adage of “Judge the artist, not the art.
