Dave Chappelle Canceled The Remainder Of His Shows With Joe Rogan After Testing Positive For COVID-19

When Elon Musk fled from California to Texas last month, he didn’t waste any time immersing himself in the local color. Last week Elon on his alien progeny incubator Grimes hung out backstage at Stubb’s BBQ in Austin where Dave Chappelle and Joe Rogan have been headlining a multi-night residency. What a guest list, sounds like a blast, I know! But there was one party guest who got out of hand and rudely jumped down Dave’s throat. That guest was coronavirus, and now it’s taken up a residency inside Dave Chappelle. TMZ reports that Dave is so far asymptomatic, so let’s hope COVID resists the urge to perform Dave’s signature “fuck your couch” bit on his lungs.

TMZ reports:

Dave Chappelle tested positive for COVID-19 and has canceled a string of shows in Austin, TX … TMZ has learned.

A rep for the comedian tells us Dave is currently quarantined after the positive test, but he has not yet experienced any symptoms. Dave performed the first of 5 shows in Austin Wednesday night with others scheduled for Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

We are told the remaining shows — 2 of which included Joe Rogan — have all been canceled and refunds will be offered.

Chappelle, Rogan, Elon Musk and Grimes were photographed together earlier this week at Stubb’s Amphitheater … where his shows were all scheduled.

USA Today reports that the venue’s COVID safety measures required that “all ticket holders will get a rapid COVID-19 test upon arrival, and masks will be required in the venue. Also, cell phones are banned.” And I can understand why no phones were allowed. Here’s Dave and the gang flagrantly flaunting their exposed nose and mouth holes.

So far, none of the other performers have reported positive tests. According to TMZ:

Ron White, who did 3 shows with Dave and Joe last week, tells TMZ he’ll go into quarantine until he’s tested for COVID later Friday. He says for the shows, “every precaution was made for it to be a safe environment and it was ridiculously fun to be back on stage after 10 months.” Ron adds that he feels fantastic.

Joe Rogan, who was around Dave this week, says he’s in the clear, “Because people are asking, I was not exposed to the person who had covid and I have tested negative every day this week. Also, the person that gave covid to Dave was NOT Elon’s partner, Grimes.”

Consequence of Sound reminds us that Grimes revealed that she had tested positive on January 9th. Maybe that’s why she’s the only one with a visible mask. You can’t be too careful, you know! Comedian Donnell Rawlings had this to say about how stand up comedians are the true heroes of the pandemic. Possibly related, tickets for the show were $250 per person (per USA Today).

The comedian also weighed in on the risks that come with catching COVID saying, “There is always some risk when you’re trying to better someone’s life. This is the reality of the coronavirus, you can do everything to be safe, but there is always a possibility that you can be unsafe. We did everything we could to give people a good time. Mental health and physical health are neck to neck.”

Rawlings added, “I texted Dave yesterday to check on him and I said, ‘I love you brother’ and ‘we are gonna get through this.’ His response — “I know we will, but dammit, I thought it was gonna be you before me!” Great to see Dave’s in great spirits.

Possibly related, here’s a big ass multiple location party Donnell threw for radio personality Angela Yee at which Dave was front and center of all the action. When I swiped through and saw those INDOOR BRUNCH pictures, I audibly gasped. But at least it prepared me to the INDOOR HOUSE PARTY picture to come.

This reminds me of an infamous quote I once read — “There is always a possibility that you can be unsafe.”  – Donnell Rawlings. Truer words, my friends. Truer words.
