Thandiwe Newton Has Left “Magic Mike’s Last Dance,” Denies She Was Fired Over A Fight With Channing Tatum About The Oscars Slap
Some fuckery is afoot on the set of Magic Mike’s Last Dance, the Magic Mike sequel, which is currently filming in London with Thandiwe Newton as the romantic lead opposite Channing Tatum. According to Variety, Thandiwe suddenly decided to step down, and Salma Hayek will be taking her place. The Sun reported that Thandiwe was fired by Channing, who is also a producer, after they got into it on set over The Slap at the Oscars of all things, causing the situation between them to become “untenable.” I know Will Smith really put his back into slapping Chris Rock, but damn, I cannot believe that shit is still echoing all the way across the pond! However, The Independent reports that Thandiwe denies The Sun’s report, and, in a statement, said she “made the difficult decision to step away” to “deal with family matters.” Sounds fishy, to be sure. But whatever the case, I’m sure the MM3 costume department took a look at the news circling the water cooler this morning and muttered “we’re gonna need a bigger bra.”
Chris Rock Jokes That He’s Not Going To Talk About The Oscars Slap Until He Gets Paid

It’s been two weeks since Will Smith turned the 2022 Oscars into Slapapolooza by slapping Chris Rock for making a G.I. Jane joke about Jada Pinkett Smith. And since then, we’ve heard a lot from Will. We heard from him during his Best Actor speech when he apologized to the Academy and the audience. We heard from him the next day when he apologized to Chris Rock on Instagram. We heard from him when he resigned from the Academy. And we heard from him when the Academy decided to ban him from attending the Oscars for 10 years as punishment. Basically, Will’s statement writers have been busy. But while we’ve heard from The Slapper a lot, we haven’t really heard from The Slapee. Chris is currently doing a stand-up tour, and while he’s dropped words about this mess here and there, he’s mostly kept quiet, saying that he needs time to process it all. But during a show on Friday night, Chris let the audience know that he’s not talking about Will getting slappy with him until someone shows him the MONAAAAAY. “Err, can I pay you not to talk about this so it can finally go away?” thought Will Smith, somewhere.
The Academy Board Is Reportedly Divided On Whether To Take Away Will Smith’s Oscar Or Not (UPDATE: He’s Been Banned From The Oscars For 10 Years)
UPDATE: Will Smith will get to keep his Oscar but he won’t be able to go to any Academy events for the next 10 years. That means he will not present Best Actress (like most previous Best Actor winners do) at next year’s Oscars. Deadline has the Academy’s full statement, but here’s the main part of it.
Today, the Board of Governors convened a meeting to discuss how best to respond to Will Smith’s actions at the Oscars, in addition to accepting his resignation. The Board has decided, for a period of 10 years from April 8, 2022, Mr. Smith shall not be permitted to attend any Academy events or programs, in person or virtually, including but not limited to the Academy Awards.
We want to express our deep gratitude to Mr. Rock for maintaining his composure under extraordinary circumstances. We also want to thank our hosts, nominees, presenters and winners for their poise and grace during our telecast.
This action we are taking today in response to Will Smith’s behavior is a step toward a larger goal of protecting the safety of our performers and guests, and restoring trust in the Academy. We also hope this can begin a time of healing and restoration for all involved and impacted.

In the aftermath of Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars, people have brought out old clips that show the messiness in his marriage with Jada Pinkett-Smith. One clip that has gone viral is one where Jada attempts to rope Will into an uncomfortable conversation during an IG Live where he’s looking at her like “Not Today Satan” the entire time. On top of that, it’s also being reported that going into today’s meeting on if Will should be punished, the Academy board is split on if his Best Actor Oscar should be taken away.

According to Deadline, MTG filed a report with the Capitol Police after late-night host Jimmy Kimmel joked “where’s Will Smith when you need him,” in response to MTG calling the three Republican senators who voted to confirm JUSTICE (!!!) Ketanji Brown Jackson to the US Supreme Court, “pro-pedophile.” Well, MGT fucked around and found out what happens when you tussle with the Hollywood elite because Jimmy turned around and called Batman on her ass! The real one too. Not Robert Pattinson’s lonely bat boy, the one in DC! Comics. Not Washington, DC.
The Academy Has Moved Up Their Board Meeting To Discuss Possible Sanctions Against Will Smith
Cue up the part in MLK’s speech where he says “free at last,” because we’re one step closer to putting The Slap (pictured above, emblazoned on the Berlin Wall) behind us. According to CNN, The Academy of Motion Picture Sciences has moved up the date for their board meeting to discuss possible sanctions against Will Smith for walking on stage and slapping Chris Rock during the Oscars telecast on March 27th. Originally scheduled for April 18th, the meeting will now be held tomorrow, April 8th, at 9 am. And here I was under the impression that they were waiting so long because they had to interview every single person who witnessed that shit, starting with Lupita Nyong’o all the way up to Ruth McCurdy of DeKalb, Illinois, to ask them their opinion before making their assessment of what, if any, actions to bring against him. Why else would it take so long? We all saw what happened!

So while Chris eschewed discussing The Slap in his recent show, Amy took a more direct approach toward healing. At a show over the weekend in Las Vegas, Amy shared a joke that the Academy wouldn’t let her tell about Alec Baldwin shooting and killing Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Amy truly is the Picasso of pain, and I’m not saying that just because the audience’s eyes were probably sliding all around their faces willy-nilly from looking at her sideways. It’s just that I shudder to think of what type of off-color jokes she’ll tell once she enters her Blue Period.
