The SAG Award Nominations Were Led By America’s Tree, Scarlett Johansson
Love it or hate, it’s Scarlett Johansson’s world and we’re just living in it. Like literally, everything from the trees in the forest to all the hysterical wives in Brooklyn, it’s all Scarlett, all the time. Scarlett earned three Screen Actors Guild nominations today, and we have to assume her dear friend Woody Allen was one of the first calls she made when she heard the news. According to Variety, Scarlett got two noms for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role for Jojo Rabbit and Marriage Story, as well as a nomination in the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture category for Jojo Rabbit. Add that to her Golden Globe nomination announced earlier this week, they’re probably just going to go ahead and call movies “Scarletts” from now on.
Geoffrey Owens Made An Appearance In The SAG Awards Opener
Bringing 9-5 realness, Geoffrey Owens was featured in the opening “I’m An Actor” bit at last night’s SAG Awards. You may recall that back in September, Geoffrey was photographed working at a New Jersey Trader Joe’s, the unflattering pictures eventually becoming fodder for Daily Mail and Fox News. But nobody was gonna play Geoffrey dirty like that, and instead of making fun of him, people flooded him with support. Nicki Minaj even got involved, inserting herself into the conversation by offering Geoffrey $25,000 he didn’t ask for. When she eventually came through with the funds, Geoffrey donated them to The Actor’s Fund in the name of The Rashad Show (yes, we are still calling it that) alum Earle Hyman.
“Black Panther” Made History At The This Year’s SAG Awards
The Screen Actors Guild Awards has always reminded me of a school assembly where the students give a huge middle finger to all of their teachers and honor each other while getting hammered in the cafeteria. Therefore, it’s one of my favorite awards shows of the season and last night it became the real MVP when it honored the mega-successful Black Panther with the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture award. And why is this important? Because winning this award makes Black Panther the first superhero movie, especially one from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, to EVER receive that honor. You know what I say to that? WAKANDA FOREVER BITCH!
Megan Mullally Is Hosting The SAG Awards – And Designers Are Staying Away
This one shocks me since the fashion designer community has been known for being such warm, hospitable people. Cough. Megan Mullally took a novel approach in announcing that she’s hosting the 2019 SAG Awards, and that was the angry way. Megan posted on Instagram about how she was running into issues getting designers to dress her, which is strange since she’s gonna be HOSTING the damn thing. Poor Megan. In the past few years, red carpet reporters have started to move from “Who are you wearing?” to asking more serious questions like “So, you wanna talk about your creep of a brother-in-law?” But if Taryn Manning had been asked who she was wearing at the SAG Awards last Sunday, there’s a very good chance a Bloomingdale’s employee watching from home would have come up with the answer before she could. Because unbeknownst to Taryn, she was wearing $199 dress from the mall. And she’s pretty pissed about that.
