Leonard Roberts Says That Racism And Ali Larter Led To Him Getting Fired From “Heroes”
When Leonard Roberts got cast in the series regular role of D.L. Hawkins on the first season of Heroes in 2006, he thought he landed his big break, but it turned out to be anything but. In an essay published by Variety, Leonard writes that from the get-go he knew Heroes was not going to be his dream job and his character was killed off after just one season. It wasn’t for story reasons either. Leonard says that he was never asked for input on his character, he and other actors of color were often side-lined, and that working with Ali Larter, who played his wife on the show, was about as pleasant as a salad tossing from a python. And even though others working on the show also found that Ali Larter’s supervillain power was punching the souls of others with her asshole ways, Leonard was the one who got pink-slipped. Ali responded to Leonard’s claims about her, and it turns out her other supervillain power is that she can make eyeballs roll out of heads with a shitty statement.

Faizon Love Sued Universal For Removing The Black Stars From The International Poster Of “Couples Retreat”
Couples Retreat. A movie I never saw and likely never will see. Despite receiving a pitiful 10% on Rotten Tomatoes, the Vince Vaughn vehicle about couples retreating (?) made Universal Pictures a whopping $171 million in 2009. Now one of the film’s stars, Faizon Love, is suing Universal for racial discrimination. He says he and his Black co-star, Kali Hawk, were erased from the overseas version of the poster, while the rest of his white co-stars (Jon Favreau, Jason Bateman, Kristin Davis, Malin Ackerman, Kristen Bell) got to stay.

John Boyega Says Disney Used His Race To Market “Star Wars” And Then Sidelined His Character
Back in June John Boyega made headlines when he gave an impassioned, impromptu speech at a Black Lives Matter protest in London. In it, he said, “I don’t know if I’m going to have a career after this, but fuck that.” Celebs like Jordan Peele, Olivia Wilde, and his Star Wars director JJ Abrams took to Twitter to assure John that they’d still love to work with him.
Now, John’s continuing that honesty streak in a new interview with GQ. He discusses Black Lives Matter, his personal journey to self-actualization, and being a Black actor in the Star Wars franchise. He says that he, along with other actors of color like Naomi Ackie, Kelly Marie Tran, and even Oscar Isaac (whom John refers to as “a brother from Guatemala”), were trotted out to sell the movies, but sidelined in the actual films.
