Cardi B And Offset Responded To People Who Say They Bring Down The Value Of Birkin

The only thing Cardi B and Offset love more than breaking up and getting back together is buying Birkin bags. Back in July, Daddy Offset actually gifted little Kulture a $20,000 pink Birkin for her second birthday. People had shit to say about that, and Cardi took to Instagram to defend her husband. Two months later, and the family is once again embroiled in a Birkin controversy.

Here’s what happened… last week rapper Saweetie, accompanied by her boyfriend Quavo (Offset’s Migos groupmate) said this on an Instagram Live: “If he not getting you a Birkin, if he not paying for your bills, then throw that n—- back to the streets, OK?”

Some fans had a problem with this, pointing out that not everybody can afford designer brands. And maybe it’s better to spend your hard-earned money on more practical things, like food, shelter, and streaming services?

Now, a couple of weeks ago, Cardi posted this picture to her Instagram:

I know. Her closet is basically the back room of a Hermès. But I guess she hasn’t bought up all the Birkin products, because her and Offset were back in action this past weekend (and he also had a little run-in with the cops after driving through a Trump rally in Beverly Hills). As a thank you for once again taking him back despite his cheating ways, Offset spent $128,662.50 on luxury bags from an Hermès associate named Sean (gee, I hope he works on commission). Then he posted the (literal) receipts to his Insta Stories:

Now, apparently, in addition to the pearl clutchers who were all, “open a savings account!”, some people were tweeting that rappers like Cardi and Offset were “depreciating” the value of designer labels by showing off their purchases.

Here was Offset’s response:

And since Cardi is better off the cuff with a camera in her face, she posted a video calling out the racists (side note: love the mint dress/nails):

Cardi says (via Billboard):

“First things first, I definitely could get a bag — actually I got four bags today from the Hermès store. That’s one. I don’t wanna brag but it’s like, don’t even try it. Second of all, why is it that y’all asking female rappers if they can get a bag from the Hermès store. Y’all don’t do that to these white celebrities. So, why is it that y’all gotta be asking us? What the f–k?”

She also says that she’s not depreciating the value of their brand; if anything, hip hop artists like her are doing them a favor. Cardi says the popularity of her songs “Bodak Yellow” and “I Like It” actually caused a spike in sales for both Christian Louboutin and Balenciaga. Hmmm, I wonder if sales for big Mac trucks and little garages went up after WAP…

My opinion? I’m Team Backpack. You can still use both your hands and there’s tons of room for extra food!
