When A Strange Loop took home the Tony award for Best Musical at last night’s Tony Awards, Jennifer Hudson became the 17th quadruple threat to earn the highly coveted PMTAOEE, better known as the Philip Michael Thomas Award for Overall Excellence in Entertainment, even better known as the EGOT. And she didn’t even have to break a sweat or unhinge her jaw for it! Jennifer won her Tony as a producer of the Pulitzer Prize-winning show and shares the Tony with RuPaul Charles, Don Cheadle, Alan Cumming, Ilana Glazer, Mindy Kaling, and Billy Porter among others. But thanks to her 2021 Daytime Emmy for an animated short called Baba Yaga, she was able to close the loop and put a PeriodT! On her EGO status.
Yesterday we all found that 83-year-old Bill Cosby would not, in fact, be spending the rest of his days in prison for rape, because a legal technicality had gotten him an early release after just two years served on a 3-10 year prison sentence. Bill is probably celebrating, and we know his TV wife Phylicia Rashad was throwing up her hands in celebration. But someone must have told her that her unbridled enthusiasm for Bill’s release was capital-t Tacky, because she’s released a second statement on the matter. We know the news was probably the height of awful for Bill’s victims. And one alleged victim – Janice Dickinson – confirmed as much, when she released her own statement describing that the news of Bill’s release absolutely, undeniably, 100% sucks.
The greasy ball of rage that’s been sitting inside my belly since I learned that Bill Cosby is walking away from his rape conviction flared up anew when I hopped on Twitter and saw that Mrs. Huxtable herself, Phylicia Rashad, had wasted no time at all celebrating (!!!!!) him being let out into the streets (and let’s face it, probably back onto TV in no time). Phylicia tweeted a picture of Bill with the caption “FINALLY!!!! A terrible wrong is being righted- a miscarriage of justice is corrected!” Michael made this same joke 6 years ago when she reportedly said “forget those women” when talking about Bill’s accusers, but I’m going to make it again — BYE PHYLICIA!
RuPaul is a legend that has been around for a while (that sounds shady, but it’s the truth – photographs from the 90s don’t lie!) And you don’t achieve legendary status without also breaking a bunch of records. Like most hours clocked through the soft-focus filter of a camera lens, or total number of miles walked down a runway in a beaded gown while holding your breath. Over the weekend, the Creative Arts Emmys were held in Los Angeles, and RuPaul has come one more award closer to breaking yet another record.
Seen above making her way to a post office box to mail the mortgage check that is probably going to bounce thanks to the conspiracy that is ruining her residuals*, Phylicia Rashad is doing a little bit of backtracking after her comments about the Bill Cosby scandal went everywhere yesterday. Phylicia needs an Olivia Pope in her life to teach her how to properly clean up a mess, because she’s not so good at backtracking.
At a luncheon for the movie Selma in NYC the other day, Phylicia was asked about the Bill Cosby allegations by Showbiz 411’s Roger Friedman and he claims that she said “forgot those women” and went on to say that she believes the allegations from the 20 plus women are all part of an evil conspiracy to destroy a legacy. Phylicia tried to clarify her comments during an interview with ABC News. She played the “misquoted” card and if really wanted to play that card, she should’ve said, “We were at a luncheon! What I really said was, ‘Forget this low-mein. It’s inedible!'”
So I guess “Bye Phylicia” is the new “Bye Felicia.”
And now we’re once again being reminded that actors are not the characters they play on TV. Bill Cosby is definitely not Cliff Huxtable and Phylicia Rashad is not Clair Huxtable. Because Clair Huxtable would never, but Phylicia Rashad would.
Most of the cast of The Cosby Show have kept their lips glued shut when it comes to the allegations from the 20 plus woman who claim that Bill Cosby drugged and raped them. Keshia Knight Pulliam recently opened up her mouth about it and only said that she wasn’t there and she can only speak of the man she loves who created a legacy. Even Rudy Huxtable knew that it’s probably not a good idea to stamp the “LIE-TELLER” label on Bill Cosby’s alleged victims. But Phylicia Rashad doesn’t care and she went all out while speaking with Showbiz 411’s Roger Friedman.
