Because 2020 is a relentless diabolical demon who just couldn’t let the world have more than a minute of happiness, international treasure Alex Trebek has died. Alex was 80 years old. And yes, I just had to go with a picture co-starring Alex’s lusciously gorgeous mustache.

Alex Trebek is a legend. And, after 94 years as the host of Jeopardy!, he’s also shown himself to be a bit of a savage. And Alex further cemented that reputation when one of the clues from Thursday’s episode included the lyrics to Megan Thee Stallion’s Savage. Alex coolly and calmly read out the lyrics in that mild, deadpan Canadian tone––he even gave a look of “bitch, please” to the contestant who fumbled the answer. But now, some creative genius has interpolated Alex’s “rapping” with the original music and released a surefire Grammy winner.
Ken Jennings Is Maybe Being Considered To Take Over “Jeopardy!” From Alex Trebek
As most fans of Jeopardy! know, Alex Trebek has been fighting a stage 4 pancreatic cancer diagnosis since 2019. It was a daily double of sadness for anyone who has truly enjoyed Alex’s clue-reading and fully-enjoyable moments of contestant-directed roasting. Alex’s most recent update was that his cancer was affecting his quality of life, but that he would only step away from his hosting gig if he started messing up clues. Alex Trebek is nothing if not a professional. With all that being said, it sounds like the decision-makers at Jeopardy! want to ensure their bases are covered in the event Alex decides it’s time to step down from his job as host, which he’s done since 1984. In comes Ken Jennings, the highest-earning American game show contestant of all time who holds the highest average for correct answers and holds the longest winning streak on Jeopardy! with 74 consecutive wins. According to The New York Post, there’s speculation that Ken is being “groomed” to take over as host when Alex Trebek decides to leave.
“Jeopardy!” And “Wheel Of Fortune” Are Going Back Into The Studio To Film New Episodes
USA Today says that Jeopardy! and Wheel Of Fortune are coming back, and like The Bold and Beautiful, they’ve got a whole bunch of new procedures and shit to make sure that nobody catches coronavirus. And hopefully, unlike with B&B, they don’t have to re-shut down after like fifteen minutes. Sony Pictures Television said that they’re going to shoot new episodes after production stopped in March. They tried the whole no-audience thing but after numbers surged, filming stopped altogether. But now they’re coming back! And hopefully, like B&B, they will bring in blow-up dolls to fill in for human audience members, and those blow-up dolls will probably still find a way to swoon over Alex Trebek.
Alex Trebek Shared An Update On His Battle With Cancer
In early 2019, Canuck quiz show icon Alex Trebek announced he was diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer, and the prognosis wasn’t good. The world wept, including my momma. Alex and Robert Redford are tied for her #1. Since then, Alex has battled excruciating physical pain and depression. After doctors told Alex the cancer was “near remission”, it came back last fall with a vengeance, and he was forced to undergo more chemotherapy.
Now, in an interview with The New York Times to discuss his new memoir, The Answer Is… Reflections on My Life (move over, Mimi!), Alex has revealed that his prognosis has worsened, and, if his current course of treatment fails, he plans to stop treatment altogether. The Daytime Emmy Awards Were Handed Out (Virtually) Last Night
And yes, Alex Trebek (seen above at last year’s ceremony) won another Daytime Emmy even though his show airs in the evening. That’s the POWER of Alex Trebek!
Last night, the Daytime Emmys (the ugly step-sister of the more glamourous Primetime Emmys) were handed out, virtually––and for yet another year, a whole lot of NOTHING passing as riveting television won big. I can’t relate to anything on-air in the mornings because I’m usually either still passed out, or nursing an edibles-and-wine hangover while barely holding it together in a Zoom call. But after reading this list of winners, it’s clear that I’m not missing out on anything.
