Will has since apologized, but we don’t care. Sir, you slapped a grown man in his face during the damn Oscars. You will never live this down. But even with all of this drama still swirling around, Chris hasn’t really been saying much. Of course, people like Sean Diddy Combs have tried to make us believe that everything between them is all grits and gravy, but Chris’ brother Tony Rock is combating that narrative by letting everyone know that things between Will and Chris aren’t good at all.

Welp, looks like the 94th annual Academy Awards was slightly less of a shit show viewership-wise than the 93rd Oscars. I mean, it was a much bigger shit show in general thanks to Will Smith giving the media writers content to cover for the next year and a half by slapping Chris Rock on live television. But people didn’t even know that was going to happen when they decided to tune in and give the broadcast a 60% increase in viewers over last year. But that’s not saying much, because last year was the least-watched Oscars ever so this year is sitting pretty at the second-least. YAY!

It was the smack heard round the world. Will Smith marched onstage at the Oscars and slapped Chris Rock for making a G.I. Jane joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head. We all witnessed the same disappointing, and frankly, wildly unprofessional behavior unfold live in front of our eyes during last night’s Academy Awards broadcast. I think we can all agree that what we saw, which was Will Smith bum-rushing the stage and slapping Chris Rock in the face after he made a G.I. Jane II joke about Will’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, who suffers from alopecia, was undeniably shocking. Yet, unsurprisingly, reactions to The Slap have been as all over the place as the broadcast itself. But personally, when the camera person in charge of audience reaction shots failed to capture the crucial 30 seconds between when Will was shown laughing at Chris’ joke, and the moment Will saw Jada’s face and decided he needed to slap the taste out of his mouth, I said to myself, “wow, this is a new low for Hollywood.” Say what you will about the demise of the Golden Globes, but at least their crew would have had coverage.
Chris Rock Will Not Press Charges Against Will Smith For The Slap At The Oscars
It was Tinseltown’s biggest night last night, and all the stars were out at the Dolby Theater. And in one very specific case, one of Hollywood’s brightest stars ended up seeing stars themselves – literally. Chris Rock, who was on hand to present the award for Best Documentary Feature, found himself delivering a little monologue that ended with Chris getting slapped the fuck up on stage by Will Smith, a man who certainly didn’t appreciate the extremely-timely G.I. Jane joke directed at his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. And just like that, Will Smith made it to the number-one spot of every “10 Craziest Oscar Moments Ever” list from now until the end of time (or at least until someone else gets their shit rocked on stage at the Oscars).
