We live in a society where original thought means, “How can we tweak some shit that’s already been done?” And if you’re wondering what’s been dug up from the past and propped up for another public viewing, the answer is Alice Walker’s timeless tale of a bad marriage and bad children, The Color Purple. The new film adaptation, which is based on the musical stage version, dropped its trailer yesterday and it looks nothing like the beloved 1985 classic film. Mainly because it’s a version of the musical that took Broadway by storm during its runs between 2005 and 2017. And so far, reactions have been positive, which is perfect since this film is about to be the gift that keeps on giving when it debuts later this year on Christmas Day.
