Queen Elizabeth Skipped The Annual Commonwealth Day Service
Queen Elizabeth is the world’s oldest, most powerful living monarch, but she’s also a working royal, which means if there’s something to show up to, The Queen shows up to it. If I were the world’s oldest, most powerful monarch, I’d bail out on just about anything that doesn’t involve trays with little puff pastry snacks or a fancy carriage ride. But I clearly don’t have Liz’s work ethic. Recently, though, 95-year-old Queen Elizabeth has skipped events for valid reasons like health issues and a February COVID-19 diagnosis. The Queen recovered from COVID, but it looks like she just wasn’t feeling up to appearing at a Commonwealth Day service today because she skipped that.
Queen Elizabeth Won’t Be Living At Buckingham Palace Anymore
Aside from the sound of sugar cubes plopping in a hot mug of tea, the Spice Girls, and Austin Powers, there’s nothing more British than a tourist pulling up to Buckingham Palace in a double-decker red bus and wondering out loud, “Hey, you think we’ll see Her Majesty waving from the window? I’m gonna get my camera ready just in case.” But that won’t be a thing anymore, because Queen Elizabeth doesn’t live there anymore. She just doesn’t want to be commuting back and forth from Buckingham Palace to Windsor Castle, which is her preferred place of residence.
Queen Elizabeth Is Recovering From COVID, And Is Visiting Family Again
When it was announced last week that 95-year-old Queen Elizabeth had been diagnosed with COVID-19, I’m sure a whole lot of people started preparing for the not-best, or threw on their tinfoil hats, grabbed their copy of Weekend at Bernie’s, and started speculating about the real truth of Liz’s health (especially in the wake of the news that she had started canceling virtual engagements). But here we are, The Queen is on the mend, and is well enough to be making house calls.
A COVID-Positive Queen Elizabeth Is Canceling Virtual Engagements
It was revealed over the weekend that 95-year-old Queen Elizabeth has tested positive for COVID-19. And she’s staying put at home and isolating. How her majesty caught COVID is up for debate, although she did attend a maskless in-person meeting only a few days before her diagnosis was revealed. And also, uh, you know, there’s the awkward fact that her son and heir Prince Charles and his wife Duchess Camilla also came down with a case of COVID prior to her catching it. So she’s playing it safe and not attending any more of those maskless meetings. But as it turns out, The Queen isn’t just switching from in-person to working remotely from home. The Queen must need more rest than previously thought because she’s canceled all virtual engagements as well.
THE QUEEN Went Maskless For Her First In-Person Meeting Since Prince Charles Test Positive For COVID-19
Last week Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, both tested positive for COVID-19. Two days before his diagnosis, Charles had met with his mother, THE QUEEN. Obviously, this wasn’t good, since THE QUEEN has been dealing with health issues the last few months. And, you know, she’s 95. But People says that after a week of being closely monitored, THE QUEEN is back to in-person meetings. Yesterday she met with outgoing Defence Services Secretary Rear Admiral James Macleod and his replacement, Major General Eldon Millar, at Windsor Castle. Nobody wore masks. When Charles heard the news he immediately called future Queen Consort Camilla in from the other room: “Oy, Tampy! Our plan didn’t work! The old bat’s still kickin’!”
