Just to name a few, we’ve gotten The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and next up is The Little Mermaid featuring Halle Bailey. The film has had its share of controversy, from dumb people getting angry at a fish woman not being white to comments about the lighting to the yassifying Flounder. Well, it looks like controversy is officially part of The Little Mermaid’s marketing plan because it can’t go one week without someone hating on it. This time, fellow live-action Disney star Mena Massoud has gotten into HOT WATER for his SEA SALTY views about the film’s hype.
Disney’s Live-Action “The Little Mermaid” Has Found Its Prince Eric
When Disney first started casting their live-action version of The Little Mermaid, they broke the hearts of racists and Lindsay Lohan by casting Halle Bailey as Ariel. Disney’s cartoon Ariel is a blue-eyed white girl with bright red hair, and Halle isn’t. Clearly they didn’t have the same strategy when choosing a Prince Eric. My guess is someone at Disney called in Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother, pointed to an 11-inch Prince Eric doll, and said, “So how much magic wand power would it take to make that thing life-size?”

It looks like the casting directors of Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid are going to have to start digging through their reject pile of dreamboat headshots. Because their first choice dreamboat for the part of Prince Eric doesn’t want to do it.
Javier Bardem Might Play King Triton In Disney’s Live-Action “The Little Mermaid”
It looks like poor Terry Crews isn’t taking his meaty pecs under the sea and we aren’t going to see a topless Idris Elba in a flowy white beard wig, because there’s a report that Javier Bardem is going to be King Triton to Halle Bailey’s Ariel in the live-action The Little Mermaid, alongside Awkwafina as Scuttle, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Maybe Harry Styles as Prince Eric, and Maybe Melissa McCarthy as Ursula.
Ariel’s mom is also reportedly in this, and they’re in the process of casting that role, in case you’re wondering if Javier being Halle’s father is a Victor Garber + Whoopi Goldberg = Filipino son situation.
