Nicole Kidman Talked About Playing Lucille Ball In “Being The Ricardos”
If you see Debra Messing wandering around looking despondent with mascara running down her face, pulling out clumps of her disheveled Lucy wig, please be kind. She has probably just read that Nicole Kidman didn’t really know shit about Lucille Ball until she signed on to play her in the upcoming Aaron Sorkin movie called Being the Ricardos co-starring Javier Bardem as Desi Arnaz. According to Variety, Nicole has been preparing for the role by watching episodes of I Love Lucy and is ready to “give it a go.” It’s unknown if she has also been doing face-kegels to help her mimic any of Lucille’s signature expressions.

Many yelled, “Her?” after learning that Nicole Kidman was in talks to play Lucille Ball in an upcoming Amazon Studios film by Aaron Sorkin called Being the Ricardos. We all know Nicole is a big fan of wigs, but is there a pile of hair red enough and curly enough to successfully transform her into Lucy? That is the question. But it’s a question Lucy’s own daughter Lucie Arnaz tells us we can stop asking, because she thinks Nicole will do a great job as Lucille Ball.

Anybody with eyeballs and ears knows there’s only one red-haired actress working today who has the acting chops, box office draw and the air of prestige about her required to play an American icon like Lucille Ball and that woman is Debra Messing. Everybody says this all the time. It’s all you ever hear about these days. However, according to Deadline, Nicole Kidman is in talks to play Lucille in an upcoming feature film from the undisputed King of Screwball, Aaron Sorkin. Javier Bardem is in talks to play Lucy’s husband, Desi Arnez. I didn’t know it was even possible to get a prestige project off the ground without first running it by Debra, let alone one featuring a role she was born to play! Debra, understandably, feels she’s been overlooked.

I’m not quite sure who made eight spicy, delicious ginger cookies disappear from my kitchen yesterday (I’m totally lying), but I do know I didn’t offer them to anyone else because gluttony and greed. In a bizarre twist that sounds like a scene right out of the movie in question, Masha’s Mushroom, Tara Reid claims that the offer made to Nicole Kidman via a comment on Nicole’s Instagram this past week, may or may not have been her own. I watched this new trailer for the Ryan Murphy’s take on the Broadway musical The Prom for Netflix and thought, “oh, so it’s like if Ryan Murphy did Glee” and it took me waaaaay too long to remember that Ryan Murphy actually made Glee so now I guess I’ll say “oh, it’s like if 2010 Ryan Murphy had 2020 Ryan Murphy money plus Meryl Streep!” Or maybe since Nicole Kidman is in it, it’s more like, “oh, so it’s Baz Luhrmann Presents: Glee.” At any rate The Prom is very, very shiny.
