What Pandemic Where? The Emmys Red Carpet Returns To Normalcy

September 20, 2021 / Posted by:

What a difference a year makes! Last year’s lockdown Emmy Awards were a drab affair due to them taking place in the middle of a global pandemic. As you may recall, there was no red carpet, the stars dressed up and paraded around in their backyards instead, and the awards were hand delivered by a man in a Hazmat suit who spent the evening lurking in their driveways. But this year, the glamour and glitz is back! Sure, we’re still in the middle of a global pandemic, but fuck it! We all need a little razzle dazzle in our lives, and it’s totally worth the risk with results like The Crown‘s Emma Corrin here serving Guillermo del Toro Pale Man spookiness as The Handmaiden From The Black Lagoon (by Miu Miu).

“The Queen’s Gambit” Director Scott Frank Got Dragged For His Long, Rude Acceptance Speech

September 20, 2021 / Posted by:

During last night’s Emmys,The Queen’s Gambit director, Scott Frank, won Outstanding Directing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie and took out two sheets of 8.5″ by 11″ paper before speaking for 3 minutes and 40 seconds (winners are allotted 45 seconds). After a minute and 20 seconds, the orchestra tried to play Scott’s ass off, and his response was a very entitled, “Really? No.” Then he sneered, waved his hand, and rudely said, “Seriously. Stop the music.” The music followed orders and stopped, but returned 25 seconds later. Again, Scott ignored it, although he gave a dismissive, “I’m almost done.” The music, again, stopped. One whole minute later (didn’t he say he was almost done?!) the music came back, and that’s when Scott decided to end his precious little speech and leave the stage. Hey, it’s Scott Frank’s world, and we’re just livin’ in it! Continue reading

Gillian Anderson Was Asked If She Spoke To Margaret Thatcher About Her Role On “The Crown”

September 20, 2021 / Posted by:

Exactly the Margaret Thatcher you’re thinking of. The woman who died in 2013 at the age of 87 years old. Apparently, that little piece of Thatcher biography trivia hadn’t made its way into the brain of one journalist in the press room at the Emmy Awards last night. But maybe that journalist was all mixed up because they got confused and distracted by Gillian Anderson’s American accent. They wouldn’t have been the only ones who were seemingly afflicted by such last night.

There Were A Few Surprises And Record-Breakers In An Otherwise Pretty Predictable Emmy Awards Ceremony

September 20, 2021 / Posted by:

I watched the 73rd Annual Primetime Emmys last night, and because I live on the east coast, I went to bed immediately after the final award was presented at too-late-for-me-o’clock. And it should be no surprise that I had the weirdest dream last night about a member of the royal family-turned-soccer coach that looked like Kate Winslet and sounded like John Oliver, who for some reason really wanted me to learn how to play chess with their best friend, Cedric the Entertainer. The Emmys last night kind of felt like déjà vu happening in real-time. Oh look, Ted Lasso won another award! The Crown is cleaning up! But there were some moments that felt right, like the formerly snubbed Michaela Coel taking home the award for Writing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, for the incredible I May Destroy You. But other than that, and a few fun surprises, there was a whole lot of Cheerful Soccer Coach and 1980’s-era British Queen Having Problems With Her Son’s Messy Marriage.

Seth Rogen Dragged The Emmys For Getting Together During A Pandemic While Presenting At The Emmys

September 20, 2021 / Posted by:

During last night’s Emmys, Seth Rogen presented the first award of the night and wondered “what are we doing?” over how many people had been packed into a small space. He joked about being told that the ceremony was going to happen outside since the Coronavirus pandemic is still fisting us all without lube. The ceremony was downsized but happened inside of a tent, which I guess is considered “outside” to the Emmys people. The Emmys producers were lying to themselves like the people who have anal and still call themselves “virgins.”

A Rapping Rita Wilson Helped Open The 2021 Emmys Last Night

September 20, 2021 / Posted by:

The 2021 Emmys happened last night and the opening was… Have you ever been to a family dinner and the adults get a little too drunk because their kids are old enough to drive home now and they all start sloppily singing some popular song from fifteen years ago and the kids all groan amongst each other, some leave the room in embarrassment and one bright-eyed cousin films it for social media? That. PLUS an awkward rap from a white auntie, courtesy of–WHO ELSE?Rita Wilson. And no, that’s not a picture of Billy Porter angrily begging for her to stop. He’s hyping her up!
