Viola Davis Won A Grammy And Became An EGOT Winner
Viola Davis won a Grammy for Best Audio Book, Narration, and Storytelling Recording for her memoir, Finding Me. The 57-year-old actress can add the golden gramophone to her awards shelf, which is about to collapse from the weight of her Emmy, BAFTA Award, Golden Globe, six SAG Awards, Oscar, BET Award, Drama Desk Award, seven NAACP Image Awards, and two Tony Awards. Wait. WAIT. Emmy… Oscar… Tony… and now, Grammy?! EOTG! I mean, EGOT! Viola Davis is an EGOT winner!
Adele Is A Tony Award Away From EGOT, And Some Think She Married Rich Paul
Seen above in the same kind of duck lips-throwing “shot from above” selfie that my aunties always post on Facebook, Adele added yet another trophy to her piles of trophies when she won an Emmy this past weekend for her TV special Adele: One Night Only. Winning an Emmy put Adele just one letter closer to EGOT and she only needs to win a Tony now. Adele also got a little company in The We Just Need A Tony To EGOT Club this weekend, because Eminem, Paul McCartney, and Ringo Starr also won Emmys and are also just a T away from EGOT. So prepare yourselves for an Adele, Eminem, Sir Paul, and Sir Ringo collab called 21 Mile At Abbey Road: THE BROADWAY MUSICAL!
And while celebrating reaching EGO status on Instagram, Adele’s fans noticed a customized game on her coffee table that they believe could be a clue that she married her boyfriend of more than a year, sports agent Rich Paul.
Alan Menken Becomes The 16th Person To EGOT
I don’t have kids so I’m excused from knowing anything about whatever it is Disney has been pumping into the minds of impressionable youth. But apparently, Disney+ has some heavy hitters creating content for housebound children, including newly minted EGOT, Alan Menken. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Alan won his first-ever (competitive) Emmy for “best original song in a children’s, young adult or animated program” at yesterday’s Daytime Emmy awards (most of the awards were already presented last month). The song, Waiting in the Wings, is from the animated series Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure. I’m sure Patti LuPone sent him a very nice card that read “While I don’t particularly enjoy your little Disney songs, you are by far the greatest EGOT winner since Robert Lopez,” Robert being the last person to EGOT before Andrew Lloyd Webber in 2018 (along with Tim Rice and John Legend).
John Legend, Tim Rice And Andrew Lloyd Webber Are The Newest Inductees Into The EGOT Club
I woke up this morning smelling something strange on the air. Then I read the news and realized what it was I was smelling: freshly minted EGOTs (tangy!). According to Variety, three new EGOTs were born at last night’s Creative Arts Emmys, all thanks to Jesus Christ Superstar, Live In Concert. John Legend, Sir Andrew LLoyd Webber and Sir Tim Rice all reached that milestone few can boast. John won for producing the JCS for television, ALW and Tim won for composer and lyricist for the show they wrote back in 1970. It’s unusual for people to EGOT together like they did. Usually one person EGOTs first, and then helps their partner EGOT. And three people EGOTing at the same time, is, well it’s kind of impressive.
Idris Elba Auditioned For A Singing Role In “Beauty And The Beast”
Idris Elba recently told People that he auditioned for the role of Gaston in the live-action Beauty and The Beast, a role that ultimately went to West End musical theater veteran Luke Evans. Idris in a musical? Sounds great doesn’t it? But maybe we need to pump the brakes on that until we find out what he’s capable of.
