Adele Helped A Couple Get Engaged, Brought The Emotion, And Talked About Her Divorce With Oprah During Her CBS Special “One Night Only”
Last night, CBS aired the 2-hour-long Adele extravaganza One Night Only, which featured her singing the hell out her classics and new songs from her album 30, and talking about her divorce from Simon Konecki and her weight loss with Oprah. Adele also helped a couple get engaged. And the couple got engaged with nearly every famous person alive watching. The crowd at Adele’s concert at Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles included Lizzo, Selena Gomez, Gabrielle Union, Melissa McCarthy, Donald Glover, Ellen Degeneres, Seth Rogan, Kris Jenner, Drake, Nicole Richie, Tyler Perry and more! If there was an earthquake, 70% of Hollywood would have been wiped out.
While serving Dynasty hotness in Schiaparelli, Adele brought the emotions while crooning out several songs. And Adele told the crowd that it was her first time, performing live in front of her 9-year-old son Angelo:
Apart from bringing the house down with her vocal cords, Adele also dove deep with Oprah. Adele and Simon were together for eight years. They got married in 2018 and their divorce was finalized this year. Adele explained she didn’t want to divorce because Adele was “obsessed” with the idea of a nuclear family, via Harper’s Bazaar:
“I’ve been obsessed with the nuclear family my whole life because I never came from one. In all these movies and all these books, when you grow up reading them, that’s what it should be. I just, from a very young age, promised myself that when I had kids, that we’d stay together. We would be that united family. And I tried for a really, really long time,” said Adele about her initial hopes for a traditional, unified family and her eventual decision to file for divorce. “I was just so disappointed for my son. I was so disappointed for myself, and I thought I was gonna be the one that stopped doing those bloody patterns all the time.”
Adele also talked about her relationship with alcohol, saying that “it took my dad from me.” Adele’s father passed away the past May, and Oprah said in the interview that they had found peace in their relationship. She said that her dad never really listened to her music, and right before he died, she sat down with him and they listened and cried together. via USA Today:
“So I forced him to listen, and it’s that we both cried. And then him sort of really understanding my child wounds through my song was amazing for me and him… And then when I played him the album–by then, he’d listened to all of 19, all of 21, all of 25–and my mum was helping to look after him towards the end as well. And his favorites were all of my favorites, you know, which I thought was amazing.”
Adele revealed that after her divorce, she hit the bottle hard, but she’s done with booze now:
“Well, when I was going through everything a couple of years ago, when I was going through my divorce, yes,” she said of quitting drinking. “Not at the beginning. At first, I was probably keeping the alcohol industry alive. But you know, once I realized that I had a lot of work to do on myself, I stopped drinking and I started working out lots and stuff like that to keep me centered.”
Adele also revealed that her weight loss was not inspired by some fitness Instagram page, but actually happened because of intense anxiety post-breakup:
“I had the most terrifying anxiety attacks after I left my marriage. They paralyzed me completely and made me so confused because I wouldn’t be able to have any control over my body, but I was aware of that happening because it was kind of still very much there while my whole body was just like, on another planet it felt like.”
She said she felt a lot of trust with her trainer and his presence when she was feeling lost and didn’t feel as much anxiety when she was at the gym. Working out each day gave the singer “discipline” and helped give her plans each day when she didn’t necessarily have them.

And Adele helped a man named Quentin propose to his girlfriend of seven years, Ashley, in a star-studded surprise engagement.

The couple was on CBS Mornings where they talked about having Adele host their engagement ceremony:
This surprise engagement really should give the people in Las Vegas another reason to tell Usher to kick rocks and book Adele instead. I mean, think of the promo? Maybe they charge for some kind of package–do you want Adele to sing to you and you get a glass of champagne? Maybe there’s a group discount; they have four proposals in one night. I mean, this is a business opportunity!
