Jay-Z’s NFL Deal Includes Majority Ownership In A Team
Hip-Hop’s first billionaire Jay-Z recently inking a deal with the NFL to run the Super Bowl Half Time Show and help them look like they care about social justice included him taking “significant ownership interest” in one of the teams, according to TMZ. Please let it be the New England Patriots because that will really rile up the remaining racists in Southie.
Cardi B Says She Turned Down “A Lot Of Money” To Perform At The Super Bowl
In an interview with the Associated Press (via The Hollywood Reporter), upcoming Pepsi spokeshoethrower Cardi B got into her reasoning as to why she turned down today’s Super Bowl halftime gig. “They wanted me to share a stage with Maroon 5. Need I say more?” wasn’t a quote that popped up during the interview to the surprise of myself and other readers.
Maroon 5 And The NFL Cancelled The Traditional Pre-Game Press Conference
I’m about as interested in football as I am Maroon 5, but as an American, it’s pretty much impossible to avoid either of them entirely right now as fervor for the National Sporting Event reaches a fever pitch. According to Uproxx, custom dictates that whichever musical act has been chosen to entertain the masses during the halftime show, attends a press conference hosted by the NFL in the days leading up to the big game. But things are a bit more complicated this year, in case you haven’t noticed.
This year, 37th choice Maroon 5 (or Travis Scott and Big Boi) won’t have to sit around a big table nervously wringing their hands as Amy Schumer in a newsboy cap peppers them with questions about why they’ve chosen to participate in the Super Bowl instead of supporting Colin Kaepernick by boycotting the NFL. The NFL cancelled the press conference at the last minute. Instead, they threw some money at a charity and called it a wrap.
Travis Scott Asked The NFL To Make A Donation In Exchange For Doing The Super Bowl Halftime Show
We’ve all known since September that Maroon 5 will most likely headline the Super Bowl halftime show in Atlanta on February 3, but it seemed like the NFL wanted somebody else to sweeten the pot of bland oatmeal. They asked Cardi B, who did that Girls Like You song with Maroon 5, to make an appearance, but she wanted her own set. Before going with Maroon 5, the NFL asked Rihanna and Jay-Z, but they turned down the offer in support of Colin Kaepernick. But well, rapper and the father of Kylie Jenner’s baby, Travis Scott, better expect a slap down from Amy Schumer, because he’s going to perform.
Amy Schumer Says Her NFL Boycott Made A Difference
Under normal circumstances I’d applaud Amy Schumer for taking a principled stand against the NFL by refusing to do any Super Bowl commercials this year and discouraging musicians from playing the halftime show. Luckily I can save my energy. Amy’s got the applause covered herself, and doesn’t need the help. Amy recently posted a note on Instagram congratulating herself for stickin’ it to the NFL with a single IG post in which she encouraged Maroon 5 to back out of the SB gig. In it she cites her own courage and moral conviction as the reason the NFL hasn’t yet signed a second act. Amy did that you guys.
Rihanna Turned Down Doing The Super Bowl Halftime Show Because Of Colin Kaepernick
Rihanna has been very busy becoming the Number 1 Avon Sales Lady in her district, but she is also still a world-renowned pop star. As such, you can still catch her in between makeup tutorials recording or performing music. But one place you will never see Miss RiRi is the NFL Super Bowl Halftime Show, because she has made it clear that she is not about that life.
