Prince’s Estate Is Suing Jay Z For Shady Music Streaming
Jay Z already has a pretty big pile of lawsuits sitting on his desk in his office at Tidal HQ. There are lawsuits from artists who claim they haven’t been paid by Tidal and a lawsuit that Jay Z was reportedly going to file against Tidal’s former owners. Now Page Six is saying that he’s in possession of a lawsuit from the late Prince’s estate for allegedly doing Prince dirty, business-wise, after his death.
Tidal’s Waves Are Full Of Debt!
Ever since Tidal’s grand launch last year, it’s been hit with shit news after shit news and it looks like it’s been living up to its name by turning out to be a disaster.
It was reported that Tidal let go of its CEO and 25 employees and later pink-slipped even more employees. It was also reported that Jay-Z was about to sue Tidal’s previous owners for inflating the number of subscribers they claimed they had. And now a business newspaper from Norway, where Tidal has offices, says that the streaming service that was supposed to drown Spotify lost millions of dollars last year. We all knew shit was probably not going to go well for Tidal when Madge put her knee on the table and sprawled herself out while signing some kind of contract during its weird launch. That was a bad, bad omen.
Kanye West Is Demanding That Apple Buy Tidal
Anti-thinking advocate Kanye West is impatient for Apple to hurry up and buy his pal Jay-Z’s music streaming service Tidal. Apple and Beyonce’s husband have reportedly been going back and forth about the potential purchase since last month, according to the Wall Street Journal. Kummy Kakes’ koat karrier feels that by taking their time to think about it (he’s not big on thought process), Apple is withholding music from “the kids.” He might also secretly feel that Tidal is a sinking ship and Apple might be the life raft in which he can join Kathy Bates and Rose’s stuck-up mom to escape watery business death.
Apple Might Be Buying Tidal
The Tidal that we know and a small handful of people love has been around for a little over a year, and it’s kind of been a never-ending mess for Jay Z. Beyonce’s husband tried really hard to convince people his music streaming service wasn’t a total failure, but it’s hard when a bunch of people are getting fired and sued and nosy-ass bitches are showing everyone the receipts. Jay Z has never he wanted to sell Tidal. After all, his wife is still releasing music on it. But it sounds like someone is interested in buying, and that person is Apple.
According to The Wall Street Journal (via New York Post), Apple is reportedly in talks to purchase Tidal. And not because it’s a groundbreaking platform or whatever reason you’d buy Tidal. No, they want Tidal for their big-name artists, like Kanye West and Madonna, and also to chafe at Spotify’s ass a little. Who knew Apple were such bitter bitches? Apple is currently fighting with Spotify over subscribers, and I guess they’re hoping that buying Tidal will make them the more popular table in the lunchroom or something.
So far, the talks are just in the preliminary stages, and nothing serious has happened. Jay Z reportedly purchased Tidal for $56 million, so it’s anyone’s guess as to what Apple will pay. Of course, Tidal wants you to know that Apple isn’t kicking Tidal’s tires and checking the list price online. A spokesperson for Tidal denies that Apple and Tidal are talking.
Apple is the 12 richest company in the world. If they really wanted to buy Tidal, I doubt Jay Z would stop them. After all, mama could always use a new collection of custom-made bodysuits. But if they do buy Tidal, everyone at Apple better have some earplugs handy for when their cheer squad captain Taylor Swift finds out her on-again/off-again frenemy Kanye West has been assigned to the same homeroom as her.

Jay-Z Taking Tidal’s Former Owners To Court For Maybe Lying
Technology is not my friend. I don’t get it. The fact I can use a smartphone continues to shock and awe me every day. When it comes to music, my reluctance to even attempt figuring out music streaming has meant that up until recently, I still used a walkman and left stores in a rage when they didn’t have the latest cassette from the hottest new singers. I finally figured out Spotify, sort of, so yay for me. However, I have no desire to even peek at the packaging of Jay-Z‘s doodoo caca streamer, Tidal because of how buggy the whole thing seems. He just can’t catch a break with it. And now, more troubles, more problems – surely there are 99 of them by now! HA! Jay-Z is suing the previous owners of Tidal for possibly lie telling about subscriber numbers.
Another Round Of Tidal Firings Happened
Good news for those of you who were wondering if Tidal was still the little train wreck that could, I am pleased to confirm that yes, yes it is. While the train has yet to officially ride off the rails and careen full-speed down the ravine, it has once again skipped a couple tracks and caused the conductor (Jay Z,) to no doubt whisper “Shit shit shit” while searching for the kill switch.
Complex says Tidal has fired both their CFO and COO. According to a press release from Tidal (which I picture as being written on the back of a Spotify job application form) CFO Chris Hart and COO Nils Juell were given walking papers because the company decided to move their operations team from Oslo to New York. Chris and Nils won’t be lonely in the Fired From Tidal Club; they’ll be joining the two CEOs and 25 employees that were let go last year. And if Rihanna gets caught Twitter shading the boss’ wife again, she might be next.
No word on who will replace Chris and Nils, but whoever it is might want to pencil in a meeting with the Tidal lawyers for their first day. According to the Jasmine Brand (via Complex), Jay Z and Tidal became the recipients of a $5 million class-action lawsuit on Saturday. Yesh Music and John Emanuele of a band called The American Dollar claim they haven’t received a single royalty check from Tidal, despite streaming 116 of their copyrighted songs.
The lawsuit also alleges that the check-writing team at Tidal are shady bitches who used faulty numbers to make royalty payments and may have stiffed artists by as much as 35%. Shortly after Jay Z invested Tidal, he swore up and down that Tidal would pay every artist, including the non-famous ones, a 75% royalty rate. Shit, maybe Kanye West was telling the truth when he said he was broke?
