Jared Leto once showed up to the Met Gala holding his own head, but this year there were basically three different Jared Letos. This year, he showed up to the event twice. First, when Fredrik Robertsson arrived looking like a bird from a Bjork music video and everyone mistook him for Jared; and then again when Jared actually showed up, dressed identically to his friend, Gucci designer Alessandro Michele. There was a LOT of Jared Leto last night. Too much, one might say.
Blake Lively Gave Everyone A Two-For-One Fashion Special At The Met Gala
After being an enthusiastic guest for several years, Blake Lively has finally risen the rich people ranks from invitee to Met Gala co-chair, which I assume is probably a big honor if you’re a fan of the fashion, or have actively been one of Anna Wintour’s long-term favorites. Blake and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, were named two of the six co-chairs for this year’s gala, which means Blake couldn’t slack on the commitment to the theme. That is, unless she wanted her fellow co-chair Tom Ford to give her some bitchy backhanded compliment about keeping the costume rental industry in business. Blake came through, but not with just one Gilded Glamour-appropriate gown, but technically two. Blake channeled her inner Drag Race contestant and sashayed up the Met Gala red carpet in a gown that transformed into a mid-staircase reveal.

But this year’s Met Gala is returning to its traditional date of the first Monday in May, so it’s a big triumphant return for fashion types, style vanguards, or those who just love an over-the-top spectacle. That last part isn’t exactly Tom Ford’s favorite aspect of the Met Gala, as he recently shared that he hate hate HATES the way some people have turned the Met Gala into something that looks like it’s sponsored in part by Spirit Halloween.
This Year’s Met Gala Co-Chairs Have Been Announced, And The Theme Is “Gilded Glamour”
The Met Gala usually happens on the first Monday in May every year, but things got messy when COVID hit back in 2020. The 2020 Met Gala, the theme of which was “About Time,” was quickly canceled. The 2021 Met Gala was postponed, and later held four months later in September, the theme being “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.” But the 2022 Met Gala is returning to its traditional spot on the first Monday in May, and it’s pretty clear Anna Wintour has an HBO Max subscription because this year’s theme is “Gilded Glamour.” I can practically hear Christine Baranski’s snobby old Agnes van Rhijn whispering to her sister Ada, “How nice for the new money set to have such an opportunity to show off what they recently purchased from Montgomery Ward.”
