Amy Schumer Also Went To The Met Gala

Amy Schumer was so “triggered and traumatized” by the Oscars Slap, that she’s still experiencing random bouts of hysterical blindness. That is the only way I can explain why she chose to wear this look to the Met Gala last night. “Gilded Glamour?” More like, “I’m at a funeral and my shoulders are too slopey to keep this garment on my body… Glamour.”

Amy was over the Met Gala the moment she stepped onto the red carpet. It’s too bad that her attendance was compulsory. Her guest was 20-year-old climate change activist Xiye Bastida. When Amy introduced Xiye to La La Anthony, who was interviewing for Vogue, she mispronounced her name. Then she said, “She’s a climate activist, and I’m just… in the climate.” When La La asked Amy what “Gilded Glamour” meant to her, she responded, “um… a vibrator,” and later added, “it’s ridiculous.” She’s not a regular celebrity at the Met Gala. She’s a cool, totally “over it” celebrity at the Met Gala! That’s when her designer, Gabriela Hearst, cut in to remind Amy to let Xiye talk about her jewelry. Xiye showed off the pieces and talked about how they were Otomi (an Indigenous community in Mexico that she and her family belong to). Then Xiye explained that she was a climate justice activist, and she was at the Met Gala because she believes climate justice should be present in every space because it’s a major crisis. Amy joked, “And I support that, and I’m also here for the drinks.” Then she added:

Everybody’s always at home, just… “What is Amy going to wear this year?” You know? They’re on the edge of their seats, and… when Gabriela Hearst says she’s going to dress you, you put your Spanx on, right over your C-section scar and you get on that carpet, am I right? Am? I? Right?

Here’s the clip:

People online weren’t thrilled with Amy’s vibes or her flip attitude towards Xiye:

By the time Amy got to her interview with Emma Chamberlain, she’d learned the proper pronunciation of Xiye’s name. But after Xiye explained her mission to bring attention to the climate crisis, Amy joked that her mission was to “spread the word about the HPV vaccine”:

Here’s Amy’s Instagram post about the Met Gala:

It’s so, so sad that Amy was obligated to go to the Met Gala. One day we’ll repeal that law!
