Prince Harry Presented (Virtually) In Front Of Piers Morgan At The GQ Men Of The Year Awards

Prince Harry probably thought that exiting from his duties as a member of the British Royal Family meant he could retire his stuffy Charlie McCarthy the dummy costume for good. But since it was for a good cause, he dusted it off and sat in the foyer of his Montecito, CA mansion to present, remotely, at the GQ Men of the Year Awards in London. Much to the chagrin of Piers Morgan who was in attendance and described the experience as #awks. Imagine, a 65-year-old man getting triggered by a teleprompter. #SMH.

People reports that Harry was presenting the GQ Heroes of the Year Award.

Prince Harry was looking sharp for his surprise appearance during the 2021 British GQ Men of Year Awards, which took place in London on Wednesday.

Dressed in a black velvet tuxedo, the Duke of Sussex, 36, appeared live from his home in California to present the final award to GQ’s Heroes of the Year, Professor Dame Sarah Gilbert, Dr. Catherine Green, and the entire team at Oxford who developed the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

“I’m deeply honored to be introducing our final awardees, who you’ll immediately recognize for their landmark contribution to the fight against COVID-19,” Harry said in his speech. “Their breakthrough research on the Oxford Vaccine has brought the world one of our greatest tools for achieving vaccine equity.”

According to Piers’ cohorts at The Daily Mail, Harry also used the opportunity “to launch a new assault on the media and lecture on inequality in a surprise speech to VIPs including Piers Morgan hours after the ex-GMB host won a thumping victory for free speech over Meghan Markle.” I did check and Piers did not write that particular article but he did tweet it with commentary.

The “victory” referred to is the news that Piers has been let off the hook by Ofcom, Britain’s broadcast media regulator for the comments he made about Meghan Markle’s mental health on Good Morning Britain that ultimately resulted in him exiting the show in a huff.

According to The Washington Post:

On Wednesday, it ruled that while Morgan’s remarks on suicide and mental health were “potentially harmful and offensive,” he had the right to say them and that, given the “extensive” challenge offered by his co-presenters, the remarks were “sufficiently contextualized.”

Following the ruling, Morgan tweeted, “This is a resounding victory for free speech and a resounding defeat for Princess Pinocchios.” He added: “Do I get my job back?”

Short answer, according to Variety, is probably not. Longer answer, we’re more likely to see Prince William giving his brother Harry affectionate noogies live on GMB than see Piers presenting on that show any time soon. According to Us Weekly, The Royal Family is too scared of what Harry might say in his upcoming book to welcome him back into the fold at this time.

Keeping calm? Prince Harry and Meghan Markle still aren’t on the best of terms with other members of the British royal family — and it may take some time before things are totally healed.

Relatives across the pond are “still raw” in the wake of the Sussexes’ step down from their senior duties and subsequent revelations about life in the palace, royal expert Jonathan Sacerdoti told Us Weekly exclusively on Tuesday, August 31.

“Over the year, there must’ve been some discussions, some sort of attempt at reconciliation,” the British journalist added. “But I keep saying that, you know … I’m not party to their private conversations, but I think it must be incredibly difficult to try and have those conversations because [other royals] must always be a bit worried about what Megan and Harry are going to reveal to the press or … in a new revised version of [Finding Freedom] or even in Prince Harry’s own book.”

“I think that there’s perhaps a nervousness on the part of the royal family to say too much and to make too great in efforts to reconcile, even though I’m sure that they’d want to, if only for PR purposes, never mind for family peace,” he told Us.

Piers is already 65 and probably doesn’t have a lot of good years left. So it must be doubly hard for him to know he might not be around long enough to say “I told you so” should Meghan actually manage to take down the British Royal Family once and for all. At any rate, here’s Harry twisting the knife in British media’s guts.
