The Rock Is Forbes’ Highest Paid Actor For The Second Year In A Row

As you sit there preparing to tuck into a can of beans you heated up over a flaming barrel fire fueled with the last stick of a broken down dining room chair and a volume of out-of-date encyclopedias, try to remember— things could be worse. At least you have beans. Just not as many beans as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has. He earned $87.5 million dollars this year making him the highest-paid actor of 2020 according to Forbes.

This is the second year in a row that The Rock has topped Forbes’ annual Let’s Rub it in the Faces of the Poor list. Last year Dwayne earned slightly more with $89.4 million, but considering that our economy is on the brink of collapse, he’s done pretty well for himself. Forbes says that Netflix has been primarily responsible for keeping The Rock and several other actors (especially Adam Sandler) in their top-ten fed in #theseuncertaintimes.

This year’s ten top-earning actors collected a combined $545.5 million, more than a quarter of that paid out by Netflix. The streaming giant, in fact, cut $140.5 million worth of checks to six of the top ten. Dwayne Johnson tops the list for the second year in a row with $87.5 million, collecting $23.5 million for his role as an art-thief-chasing Interpol agent in the upcoming Netflix original film Red Notice. Netflix paid out an additional $85 million to Ryan Reynolds, Mark Wahlberg, Ben Affleck and Vin Diesel.

The Rock’s also got beans coming his way from selling man-pannies and tank tops with his Under Armour line called Project Rock. And let’s not forget that he knocked Kylie Jenner down a peg by becoming the highest earner on Instagram. Plus he’s got his own tequila now so he and #2 on the list, Ryan, who has his own gin, can clink glasses and cackle into the night at their good fortune. Yes, it turns out Ryan’s little $200,000 NAACP donation didn’t make too much of a dent in his prospects. With a $71.5 million paycheck, he and Blake Lively can probably afford to have a third, and a western-themed renewal ceremony somewhere nice like Wounded Knee, SD. Here’s Forbes’ top ten Golden Penises for 2020.

  1. Dwayne Johnson – $87.5 million
  2. Ryan Reynolds – $71.5 million
  3. Mark Wahlberg – $58 million
  4. Ben Affleck – $55 million
  5. Vin Diesel – $54 million
  6. Akshay Kumar – $48.5 million
  7. Lin-Manuel Miranda – $45.5 million
  8. Will Smith – $44.5 million
  9. Adam Sandler – $41 million
  10. Jackie Chan – $40 million

American audiences may not be familiar with Akshay Kumar, who was in Mr. Ana de Armas Updates‘ #4 spot last year. Akshay is a Bollywood star whose television debut will be a series called The End for Amazon Prime. But he makes most of his money from endorsement deals (including for toilet bowl cleaners. Ain’t no shame in his game). And this is Lin-Manuel Miranda’s debut on the list, mostly due to Disney paying $750 million Hamiltons for Hamilton (so $75 million). Congratulations to these men. I’m looking forward to seeing the top ten list for female actors which, based on the relative size of their paychecks, always proves just how much worse they are at acting than men are.
