The Rock Is Once Again Forbes’ Highest-Paid Actor

After two whole years languishing – suffering, even! – in the number two spot, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is back at the top of Forbes’ annual list of the highest-paid actors. Now someone else can be the roody-poo candy ass number two, and that someone is Chris Hemsworth. Hang your head (and bank account) in shame, hottest Hemsworth brother.

The last time The Rock was the highest-paid actor – according to Forbes – was in 2016. He reportedly pulled in $64.5 million, thanks to the Fast and the Furious film franchise, Central Intelligence, and Baywatch. 2019 The Rock can look back at 2016 The Rock and scoff, “Is that it? No, but really – that’s cute.” Because 2019 was a very good year for him.

According to Forbes, The Rock is the highest-paid actor of the year with $89.4 million. Forbes says he made so much money, thanks to an upfront paycheck of $23.5 million for the Jumanji sequel, Jumanji: The Next Level. It’s his highest upfront salary to date. He also gets up to 15% of profits from his franchise films, as well as makes $700,000 an episode on HBO’s Ballers. He also makes seven figures on endorsement deals. Not too bad for a dude whose biggest flex was once accessorizing a black turtleneck with a silver chain and a leather fanny pack.

Sadly, The Rock’s $89.4 million top spot looks downright sad when you compare it to last year’s highest-paid actor, George Clooney. George made $239 million last year. But he’s not even on the list this year. Now that’s sad!

Chris Hemsworth got the second spot with $76.4 million from playing Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, his two upcoming films (including a Hulk Hogan biopic), and endorsement deals with TAG Heuer and Hugo Boss. Here’s the complete top 10 list:

1. Dwayne Johnson – $89.4 million
2. Chris Hemsworth – $76.4 million
3. Robert Downey Jr. – $66 million
4. Akshay Kumar – $65 million
5. Jackie Chan – $58 million
6. Bradley Cooper – $57 million
7. Adam Sandler – $57 million
8. Chris Evans – $43.5 million
9. Paul Rudd – $41 million
10. Will Smith – $35 million

That list looks really similar to past lists, except for the part about Paul Rudd making (checks again) $41 million? Excuse me? Forbes says he made that much from playing Ant Man in the MCU, as well as two film roles. But personally, I think he made a deal with the devil where he gets a check every time someone re-watches Clueless and argues that it’s totally okay to swoon over your step-brother if your step-brother is Josh.
