Tevin Campbell Reveals He’s Finally Embracing His Life As A Gay Man
When I was younger and used to see Tevin Campbell chasing that girl around in the ‘Can We Talk’ video I thought to myself “Nah Tevin, can WE talk?” because he always sent my Gaydar into overdrive. And as a black gay kid myself back then it would have been nice to know one of the biggest singers of the era was one of us, but alas the 90s were a different time where being gay was a huge taboo. Luckily, we live in a different time of representation and now Tevin is ready to slide the door of his glass closet open to let everyone know he’s embracing life as a gay man, although he’s been out to close family and friends for over twenty years.
Lil Nas X’s New Music Video Goes After The BET Awards For Giving Him Zero Nominations
Earlier this month, Lil Nas X called out the BET Awards on Twitter for giving him a total of zero nominations for 2022, despite the fact that he had “maybe 3 of the biggest songs of last year & a critically acclaimed album” (his words). It was especially rude considering BET nominated Jack Harlow for Best Male Hip Hop Artist. To put that into perspective, Nas’ album Montero was indeed lauded by critics (it has an 85 on Metacritic), while Jack’s sophomore effort was universally panned. Pitchfork said it was “among the most insipid, vacuous statements in recent pop history”). A few days later Nas tweeted: “this not over no bet award this is about the bigger problem of homophobia in the black community.” He added that “y’all can sit and pretend all u want but imma risk it all for us.”
Now the 23-year-old has taken a swipe at BET in his new music video, “Late to da Party (F*CK BET)”. First of all, there’s that title. Then there’s the opening lyrics: “Fuck BET, fuck BET, fuck BET!” The video also features Nas Photoshopping a picture of a pee-filled toilet containing the BET Award he won for “Old Town Road (Remix)” in 2019. It ends with him crashing his car into the BET Awards, getting on the stage, and singing “Fuck BET” while he throws money around. Hmmm. Can any academics try to decode the meaning of this video? The new Amazon series A League of Their Own premiered last night at the Tribeca Festival (although it doesn’t hit Amazon Prime until August 12), and Maybelle “Mae” Blair, a player on the All American Girls Professional Baseball League that the story is based on, joined the cast onstage for a panel Q&A. 95-year-old Mae, also known as “All The Way Mae”, applauded the new series for featuring a queer relationship between Carson (Abbi Jacobson) and Greta (D’Arcy Carden). And then she made a big announcement: she’s gay, and she’s finally coming out publicly after hiding for “75, 85 years.” Sorry, Holland Taylor, there’s a new hottest gayelle-cougar in town!
Azealia Banks’ Miami Pride Performance Turned Into A Mess
Azealia Banks is continuing her usual activities, which include throwing fits at ill-timed moments. Except for that Elon Musk mansion drama fiasco–that was the perfect moment. But this time, the 31-year-old rapper lost her shit while at a Pride event that she was working at in Miami. Normally, it’s hard to act out of pocket in Florida but Azealia found a way, as she complained about performing while performing to a degree that was so irritating to the show-runners, that they cut her mic. For Azealia’s sake, I hope she got paid up-front–for the promoters’ sake, I hope they called their bank to cancel the payment.
Rebel Wilson Has Come Out And Is Dating Her “Disney Princess”
Last month Rebel Wilson went on a podcast and revealed that she was “happily in a relationship.” Some (myself included) assumed she was talking about a new boyfriend. Well, today Rebel proved us dum-dums wrong: she posted a picture of her new girlfriend, Ramona Agruma, with the caption: “I thought I was searching for a Disney Prince… but maybe what I really needed all this time was a Disney Princess.” Rebel added heart and rainbow emojis, and captioned it #loveislove. A Former Healthcare CEO Who Harassed A Teenage Boy For Wearing A Dress To Prom Is Suing Kathy Griffin For “Doxxing” Him
Last year Sam Johnson, a health care company CEO from Franklin, Tennessee, was fired from his job after going viral. Sam was filmed harassing a teen boy for wearing a prom dress. The video, which was originally uploaded to TikTok, shows a confrontation between the fully grown adult man and then-high schooler Dalton Stevens. A smug, smiling Sam says shit like, “You look like an idiot,” and, in response to Dalton calling himself gorgeous, “Are you?”
The video spread like wildfire and Kathy Griffin retweeted it, writing “this is Sam Johnson in Nashville, Tennessee.” She tagged his company, @VisuWell, mentioned he was married to Jill Johnson and “they may reside in Franklin, Tennessee,” and added, “it seems like he’s dying to be online famous.” The video made a ton of headlines, and, soon enough, Sam was canned from VisuWell. Now, exactly one year later, Sam has filed a federal lawsuit against Kathy, claiming it was her tweet that caused the incident to go viral. It was her tweet that got him fired. And, you know, not his own extremely shitty actions.
