Lil Nas X Called Out The BET Awards For Giving Him Zero Nominations

June 2, 2022 / Posted by:

I remember not too long ago when you couldn’t survive a week without someone criticizing Lil Nas X for either being too sexual or profane when we all know it was basically people finding ways of saying “It’s Too GAYYYYY!” without actually saying it. Lil Nas X faded into the background for a bit this year but still found time to shock and titillate audiences with dick-grabbing moments. Listen, I love to see it. Apparently, though, BET doesn’t. Doja Cat led the nominations with six noms and Lil Nas X got a total of ZERO and he let BET know how he feels about that.

Quite frankly, this is some bullshit on the second day of Pride month because the way companies pander to the LGBTQ+ community in June Lil Nas X should get all of the damn awards AND serve as the host. However, we all know he doesn’t shy away from controversy. And according to Billboard, he’s speaking up about this egregious error by calling out BET on Twitter.

In a series of since-deleted tweets posted on Wednesday (June 1), the rapper called out the annual awards show for not nominating him at the 2022 ceremony. “thank you bet awards. an outstanding zero nominations again,” he wrote in his first tweet, adding a sarcastic “black excellence!”

What followed next was a barrage of tweets where some folks tried to challenge his disappointment. And that, dear friends, is when Lil Nas X immediately cracked his knuckles, put his fingers to the keys, and shouted “LET’S GO!!!” because he was ready to school everyone on exactly why he said what he said.

Some commenters took issue with Lil Nas X’s tweet, asking him why he felt he should have been nominated, thus prompting the “Call Me By Your Name” singer to offer them some quick insights. “idk maybe 3 of the biggest songs of last year & a critically acclaimed album,” he said in response to one Twitter user. “i feel like that should’ve helped me a bit.” When another commenter claimed that his last few records weren’t hip-hop, he clapped back saying, “they have a pop category.”

Lil Nas X didn’t get a nomination, but you know who did? Jack Harlow. Yes, the guy who had no idea Brandy and Ray J share the same DNA. The same guy who needed two big, strong black men to carry him through the air like Jennifer Grey in Dirty Dancing during the Kentucky Derby. That‘s who they went with. And the people are not pleased.

Meanwhile, at the BET offices, some underpaid schlub is drafting up their Pride-themed apology letter that will start with, Hi, gay. We LOOOVVVEEE Lil Nas X!”
