Gabrielle Union Says Simon Cowell’s Smoking Gave Her Bronchitis On The Set Of “America’s Got Talent”
Last fall Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough were fired as judges on NBC’s America’s Got Talent. It soon came out that Gabrielle’s forced exit may have been related to her “difficult” (sigh) habit of calling out on-set racism and sexism. By December, AGT was being investigated by SAG-AFTRA, and NBC was in full damage control mode, claiming they were working with Gabrielle’s people to “hear more about her concerns”.
Gabrielle has tweeted a little about these reports, including responding to AGT host Terry Crews’ sycophant “huh? NBC isn’t racist” comments. But she hasn’t given a full account of her experience. Essence says that Terry Crews decided to make a statement about the alleged racial and sexist allegations going on at America’s Got Talent. The allegations came up after judges Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough were fired from the show. Terry, who is the current host of AGT and was the host during Gabrielle’s season, decided to throw her right under the bus. After being called out by Gabrielle and others for that, Terry doubled down, basically saying that a husband and wife own each other and all other women in the world can eat shit.
Sofia Vergara Might Replace Gabrielle Union On “America’s Got Talent”
Last month we learned that both Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough would not be returning to America’s Got Talent next season. We later learned that Gabrielle was allegedly given the boot (or would it be the X?) because she wouldn’t just sit there and applaud like a robot at racist jokes and questionable acts. It was also reported that she was given nonstop notes about how often her hair changed, which a lot of people took as a pretty obvious microaggression. Lots of people came to Gabrielle’s defense. AGT, Simon Cowell‘s company Syco Entertainment, and NBC’s Fremantle Media, released a collective statement defending themselves, and saying they will work with Gabrielle and “her concerns.” However, Gabrielle does not want to return to the show, so there’s at least one seat to fill and TMZ is saying it may go to Sofia Vergara.
