Yesterday, lawyers for Britney Spears and her father Jamie Spears met in court for a hearing to discuss the future of her nearly 13-year-long conservatorship. And what we knew is that Jamie Spears wanted to return as the head dad in charge of her life while bringing back his friend Andrew Wallet to help manage her money and that Britney really didn’t want her dad involved in her life or money decisions in any way. Anyone who has watched the New York Times documentary Framing Britney Spears (or anyone who has seen even a little bit of chatter about it online) was likely hoping for a triumphant ending to her conservatorship saga. Like that Britney would throw open the doors to the courthouse, do a double-rotation spin, a signature head-cock to the left side, and announce that she was finally free while her lawyer blasted “Stronger” on a Bluetooth speaker behind her. That sadly didn’t happen. But the good news is, her father didn’t win either. Generally, her conservatorship situation will stay the same.

I have yet to watch the new New York Times/FX documentary Framing Britney Spears because while I’m not a hardcore member of the #FreeBritney movement, I am a person who often looks at Britney Spears’ daddy-slash-conservator Jamie Spears with very suspicious eyes. I’ve got to listen to “Stronger” a couple more times to sike myself up for my first viewing. But by all accounts from people who have seen it, Jamie Spears doesn’t exactly come across as one of the good guys in Framing Britney Spears. Shocking, I know! Jamie must have felt the energy of judgemental eyes upon him when the documentary was released last Friday. Some conveniently-timed sources are speaking out and saying that Jamie would never exploit his daughter as her long-time conservator.

TMZ says that Britney Spears‘ father, Jamie Spears, tried to pull some shenanigans in court again. While it may appear at first glance that things have come full-circle and Daddy Spears has now become a part of the #FreeBritney movement, it’s probably just some more stalling tactics as he’s claiming that Britney’s own lawyers can’t speak for her and she needs to speak for herself in court. I hope she does speak for herself, and I’m sure that when Britney gets up to speak it will be our next great Communist Manifesto.

Britney Spears has been fighting with her father Jamie Spears over her longstanding conservatorship, and she’s recently been making some choices that have no doubt left him steaming like a pot of overcooked grits. Jamie just wants to control as much of Britney’s life as the American legal system will allow, while keeping the details of it all as hush-hush as possible. But Britney would like everyone to know the details of what’s going on, like how she wants to be able to pick her co-conservator. Britney has made suggestions previously about who she’d like to see manage her money, and now she’s drawing a line in the sand (easy for an artistic prodigy like Britney) regarding who she doesn’t want. Jaime has been pushing for the return of former co-conservator Andrew Wallet, and Britney doesn’t want that.
