ABC Is Open To Having Chris Rock Host The Oscars Next Year

May 18, 2022 / Posted by:

First time Oscar-winner Will Smith is currently be prohibited from stepping anywhere near the Academy Awards until 2033, and that’s because the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences decided that a public slap across the face was one step too far when it comes to their standards of audience behavior. But the Oscars’ relationship with Will’s slap-receiver, Chris Rock, is moving in an entirely different direction. For the past couple of years, the Academy has struggled to nail down a host for the show, and even this year it felt like a scramble to put someone in front of the mic (eventually they settled on Amy Schumer, Wanda Sykes, and Regina Hall). But if ABC’s President of Entertainment is telling the truth, then it sounds like ABC is pretty close to skipping all the host-finding panic of years past, and just giving the whole thing to Chris Rock next year.

The Producer Of The Oscars Says That The LAPD Was Prepared To Arrest Will Smith After The Slap, But Chris Rock Declined To Press Charges

April 1, 2022 / Posted by:

Well here’s a new, even more dramatic layer to The Slap, aka what Will Smith did to Chris Rock’s joke-telling mouth at Sunday night’s Academy Awards. According to Will Packer, producer of this year’s Oscars ceremony, the situation with Will and Chris could have turned into a special live episode of Law & Order: Celebrity Crime Unit. Will Packer says that after Will hit Chris in the face, the LAPD was ready to do some slapping of their own. Slapping handcuffs on Will Smith, that is. But an extra-messy police altercation was avoided, allegedly because of Chris Rock deciding he didn’t want to go down that road.

Rachel Zegler Has Accepted The Academy’s Invitation To Present At The Oscars

March 24, 2022 / Posted by:

The most dramatic will they/won’t they of this year’s Oscar season has finally come to an acceptable end, even if one of the parties is likely still more than a little embarrassed at the situation. Rachel Zegler may be playing Snow White in Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation, but less than a week ago she was living an unwanted Cinderella fantasy when she revealed she had not been invited to the ball (aka the 2022 Academy Awards). After that news went viral, the Academy Awards reached out and offered her not just an invitation, but the opportunity to present an award. Well, Rachel has decided to take them up on their offer, and she’s confirmed as a presenter this Sunday.

The Oscars Will Cut 8 Awards From The Live Telecast To Try To Boost Ratings

February 23, 2022 / Posted by:

Last year, at the 2021 Academy Awards, a history-making moment happened in the Makeup and Hairstyling category, when for the first time ever two Black women won in that category (for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom). But if there was to be another significant win in that category this year, we’ll only hear about it after the fact. Because the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has decided that the audience at home doesn’t need to see the winners of a whole eight categories, Makeup and Hairstyling being one of them, and they’re shuffling those eight award categories out of the broadcast lineup.

The 2022 Oscar Nominees Have Been Announced!

February 8, 2022 / Posted by:

Today’s the big day! If you woke up because of a loud shrieking echoing across the sky, it was probably because you’re on the West Coast and after the East Coast saw the 2022 Oscars nominees this morning, Lady Gaga cried out in anguish over her snubbing and the thunder generated from her bellows cracked open the clouds like a nuke. Yup, all her hard work hitting that Oscar-campaign ho-stroll pavement telling us about getting attacked by flies and going method, and she has nothing to show for it. House of Gucci only got a single nomination for Best Makeup and Hairstyling and let’s be real–Cruella or Dune is gonna beat it. Womp-womp! Looks like the ghost of Princess Diana really was with Kristen Stewart as she’s the lucky one with a Best Actress nominee. But the big winner of the nominees day announcement is The Power of the Dog which leads the pack with a total of 12 nominations. All that nicotine poisoning Benedict Cumberbatch endured really paid off!

The 2022 Oscars Will Have A Host This Year (We Just Don’t Know Who It Is Yet)

January 11, 2022 / Posted by:

They say that the third time’s the charm, but that isn’t necessarily the case for the Academy Awards. For the past three years, they’ve gone host-less, and for the past two years, they’ve seen ratings that stink worse than Joaquin Phoenix’s reused tuxedo at the end of award season. Last year’s ceremony, which so far has been the only Oscars held during a pandemic, made history as the least-watched and lowest-rated ceremony ever. It was host-less, as were the ceremonies in 2020 and 2019. But it was announced today that there will for sure be a host this year, for a ceremony that is scheduled to go on as planned at the end of March.
