Prince William And Prince Harry Reportedly Got Into It At Prince Philips Funeral

After Prince Philip died in April at the age of 99, plans for his funeral quickly got underway. And if the British press was to be believed, it was to be the fancy aristocratic equivalent to WrestleMania 2001. Prince William and Prince Harry, who hadn’t spoken for a long time and were all fired up from Harry’s explosive tell-all with Oprah Winfrey, would finally meet face-to-face. William and Harry were seen chatting outside their grandfather’s service, and it all looked very reasonable and mature. They even walked near each other during the processional. But it sounds like all that respect and civility might have just been for the benefit of the public watching outside. Because a royal source alleges that William and Harry brought the messiness inside St. George’s Chapel with them. An inappropriate family fight at a funeral? Royals, they’re just like us.

Royal historian and biographer, and advisor for Netflix’s The Crown, Robert Lacey, recently wrote a piece for The Daily Mail about what allegedly went down inside Philip’s funeral (Robert’s sources are reportedly friends of William and Harry). Robert writes that those friends were hoping that William and Harry would make up at their grandpa’s funeral, and they were hopeful when they saw William and Harry chatting, but it wasn’t meant to be. via People:

Although the pair shared a brief public chat outside St. George’s Chapel that day, an argument broke out between William and Harry “within minutes of the siblings getting inside the castle and beyond camera vision,” according to the royal historian.

“They started quarrelling again,” he added.

“There they were, at each other’s throats as fiercely as ever,” a friend of the family told Lacey. “The rage and anger between those two has grown so incredibly deep. Too many harsh and wounding things have been said.”

Robert adds that it’s not totally out of the realm of possibility that they might actually make up one day. And, that Harry might be the one to initiate it. Because if Robert’s sources are telling the truth, William sounds like the type of person who needs to call up Oprah and ask if she’s got a book club pick for a self-help book about moving the fuck on. via The Daily Mail:

I’m told that Harry has been telling friends he would like to reconcile, and is willing to admit some of the missteps he has made.

William has no choice, for example, but to swallow his pride and smile beside Meghan on next year’s Platinum Jubilee balcony.

According to one of my sources, it’s been pointed to him that everyone has a difficult sister-in-law.

William’s response was to nod his head in sage acceptance. Then suddenly he broke out angrily. “But look at the way that bloody woman treated my staff – merciless!”

When you’re done looking at that, maybe take a look at how your uncle treated palace staff as well? Because I’m pretty sure facilitating creepy late-night visits from Lady Satan wasn’t in their job description.

Robert notes that the next time William and Harry will be together will be for the unveiling of a statue at Kensington Palace dedicated to their late mother, Princess Diana, on Thursday (it would have been her 60th birthday). They’ll be joined by close members of Diana’s family, the statue committee, the artist who sculpted the statue, and a garden designer, and that’s about it. Meghan Markle is staying home with her and Harry’s two kids, Archie and Lilibet. And Duchess Kate is skipping the ceremony as well because apparently, she doesn’t want to get caught in the middle of any shrapnel fired from either side. via Page Six:

Kate Middleton’s absence from Princess Diana’s memorial launch Thursday will be “telling on so many levels,” according to family sources.

A source told Page Six: “Catherine’s absence speaks volumes.”

“I think keeping the numbers down is a perfect ‘excuse’ for Catherine to stay away. William is fed up with the drama and Catherine doesn’t need to be dragged into this. They are planning a private family visit with their children, and that private moment is far more important than the public rhetoric.”

Kate absolutely crushed the dreams of the Royal Family publicists who are planning this event. They’re probably calling her right now, begging her to reconsider, because wouldn’t it be nice if William and Harry start to fight, she could step in front of them and distract everyone with a tasteful Reiss trench, available now for only £185. Someone else will have to run interference, and it won’t be Prince Charles, because he reportedly won’t be there either. via Page Six:

An insider told the UK Times that Charles is skipping the ceremony.

“He does find it terribly difficult,” the insider said. “These moments have the potential to resurface old wounds, and it brings back memories for him; happy, sad, regretful. Since Diana’s death, he has felt it’s best to keep those memories to himself and leave his sons to it.”

Knowing how crappy Charles was as a husband to Diana, it’s a good thing he’s staying away from that statue unveiling. Pigeons love statues, but the second Charles shows up, all those pigeons would pop their tails and be like, “That’s it – that’s where we’re shitting today. Ten points for the ears or the head.
