While the rest of the world is just now having their minds blown by the majestic splendor of Joe Exotic’s chaotic existence thanks to the Netflix documentary Tiger King, longtime Dlisted readers can say they knew him when. Shockingly, Joe is the only person, to my knowledge, to have been stripped of their HSOTD title due to a murder-for-hire conviction. If you’re just now meeting Joe for the first time (government name Joseph Maldonado-Passage), he was the owner of a janky ass roadside zoo specializing in big cats, which he bred, running him afoul of animal rights activist Carole Baskin, who owns a sanctuary called Big Cat Rescue.

Joe Exotic was sentenced to 22 years in prison for putting a hit out on one of his rivals. “You sure can pick ’em!” is usually said by a mother to the son who has chosen to date me. But now it can also be said to me about my HSOTD choices.

Complex doesn’t call Justin the “sketchy, black-market, PETA-enraging Dr. Dolittle of pop music” for nothing.

Former HSOTD Joe Exotic is in some seriously hot water and was recently arrested and is being indicted by a federal grand jury for attempted murder for hire, solidifying his status as a #1 contender for Hot Slut of The Century: Criminal Minds Edition. While his alleged actions were despicable, his unmitigated trashiness is legend. According to The Washington Post, Joe (born name: Joseph Maldonado-Passage) threatened and harassed a woman named Carole Baskin for years. Carole runs an animal rights organization called Big Cat Rescue, and Joe owns a traveling petting zoo of big cats. They’ve never met, but according to Joe, if that were to happen, he threatened to shoot her in the head. Then he tried to hire goons to do his dirty work for him.
