Brie Larson Acknowledged The “Captain Marvel” Hate While Answering A Question At The D23 Expo

September 12, 2022 / Posted by:

Brie Larson was working the red carpet at Disney’s D23 Expo over the weekend when Variety’s Marc Malkin asked her how long she planned on playing the role of Captain Marvel. I expected your typical actress answer: a teeth-baring smile and something like, “As long as Marvel will have me! It’s an honor!” But, as Entertainment Weekly reports, Brie was in no mood. She shrugged and sarcastically replied, “I dunno. Does anyone want me to do it again?” Brie’s wry response is clearly aimed at all the Marvel nerds who trolled her when Captain Marvel, the studio’s first female-led superhero movie, was released in 2019. They tried to sink the movie on RottenTomatoes before it even came out, claimed Brie was sexist against men because she made comments about Hollywood’s lack of diversity, and even criticized her for not smiling enough in the trailer. I mean, they got a point about that last one. Did you see her in Room? So glum! Continue reading

Scarlett Johansson Is Getting Equal Pay For The Black Widow Movie

October 11, 2018 / Posted by:

The Hollywood Reporter is saying that Scarlett Johansson is going to get a huge ton of cash for working on the standalone Black Widow movie which recently got its director. According to THR, Scarlett’s salary is equal to what the delicious Captain of America, Chris Evans, and what the hunky God of Thunder and Muscle Mass, Chris Hemsworth, were paid for Avengers: Infinity War, Captain America: Civil War and Thor: Ragnarok. Scarlett will be earning a grandios $15 million for playing Black Widow in her own movie.

The First Trailer For “Captain Marvel” Is Out

September 18, 2018 / Posted by:

Marvel decided that because The Emmys were last night, the heterosexuals of America also deserved a lil something, something, so they released the Captain Marvel trailer today for all of the nerds out there.

Brie Larson, who plays the titular Captain Marvel (how many of you giggled at the words “titular”?), was on Good Morning America today to reveal the trailer herself. This is the first Marvel Studios project with a female lead since they started making movies 10 years ago with the release of Iron Man, so it’s kind of a big deal. Cut to Scarlett Johansson screeching into a pillow somewhere: Why couldn’t it have been me?!”

Here’s The First Official Look At Brie Larson As Captain Marvel

September 5, 2018 / Posted by:

It’s been over two years since we found out that Brie Larson would be doing what many have done before her by turning their Oscar around and whispering “You don’t need to see this” as they signed a contract for a big-budget superhero movie. Brie is playing Captain Marvel in her own movie. Earlier this year we saw the first shots of Brie in her Captain Marvel costume, and now here’s the latest version of Brie’s Captain Marvel, thanks to Entertainment Weekly.

Brie Larson Is Captain Marvel

July 24, 2016 / Posted by:

Room actress (and The Clash at Demonhead lead singer) Brie Larson was confirmed to play Captain Marvel in Marvel’s first solo female superhero movie yesterday at San Diego Comic-Con. Upon hearing this, Scarlett Johansson donned her Black Widow catsuit before showing up at Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige’s house to inquire, “Are you fucking kidding me?”

You can watch Larson’s entrance to Marvel’s Hall H event below. Deadline reports that she’s been rumored to be Marvel’s #1 pick to play Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel’s civilian name) since earlier this summer.

Oooh, here’s the part where I get to utilize my insane comic book knowledge that prevented me from getting laid in high school! Marvel created Carol Danvers in 1968 as a supporting character to the male Captain Marvel. She got hit by a beam or something and became Ms. Marvel! She was sort of Marvel’s attempt to create the first “feminist” heroine. That translates as a female comic book character who didn’t defer to her boyfriend while constantly calling him “darling” and was allowed to punch things. Ms. Marvel got her own title in 1977, but it didn’t last very long. She was pretty minor until she joined the Avengers in the 80s and has since grown in popularity. They killed the male Captain Marvel off (with cancer, which isn’t very comic-booky) and she finally inherited the name (and a bomb-ass jumpsuit) in 2012. The flick is scheduled to come out in March of 2019. Jesus, I’m going to be piddling into my Depends and Marvel will still be turning the crank on the money machine.

Oscar-winner Brie’s talented so I’m sure she can pull this off. Luckily, she won’t have to wear Captain Marvel’s old costume which consisted of a leotard and the sluttiest superhero boots you’ve ever seen. Check them out in the gallery, along with some of Carol Danver’s other looks over the years (yes, she briefly had a star for a head), and shots of Brie looking decidely un-superheroic while shooting The Glass Castle in Montreal this past week. She looks like her trailer’s septic tank just glitched and she’s having to trudge over to the neighbors to use theirs.
