“A Strange Loop” Sashays To The Top Of The 2022 Tony Award Nominations

The 2021 Tony Awards were as novel as the COVID-19 coronavirus which resulted in a truncated season that left Moulin Rouge star Aaron Tveit as the only actor nominated in his category. *Spoiler alert* He won. But this year, Broadway told that bitch Rona, “we’ll do it live, fuck it!” and came back swinging for the 2022 season. Today, the Tony Award nominations were announced, and sadly, Neil Patrick Harris was snubbed for his role in Inside Inside Edition: The Bill O’Reilly Story: The Musical. But that’s probably because A Strange Loop, the Pulitzer-Prize winning musical by Michael R. Jackson, that has an entire number devoted to reading Tyler Perry for filth, gobbled up 11 nominations including Best Musical, Best Original Score, Best Book of a Musical, Best Performance in a leading role for newcomer Jaquel Spivey and Best Performance in a Featured role for John-Andrew Morrison. So really, Madea should be on her hands and knees thanking Michael R. for getting her as close to a Tony Award, and a Pulitzer, as she’ll ever get.

Aaron Tveit Beat Himself To Win Best Actor In A Musical At Last Night’s Tony Awards

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s 74th Annual Tony Awards were actually last year’s Tony Awards, which was postponed since Broadway went dark. So the productions that were honored last night were from the 2019-2020 season. The Tony nominations were announced way back in October 2020, only one person was nominated in the category of Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical: Aaron Tveit, for Moulin Rouge!. If you’ve never gambled on showbiz-based odds in your life, last night was the night to call Las Vegas and dump your life savings in the Leading Actor race, because shock of all shocks, Aaron won in his category. But there were some pleasant surprises as well. For example, it’s Tony-Winner David Alan Grier now.

The 2020 Tony Nominations Were Announced And Aaron Tveit Is The Only Best Lead Actor In A Musical Nominee

We see you 2020 Tony Award nominee Aaron Tveit. Very clever unleashing a global pandemic just so you can have the category of Best Performance of an Actor in A Leading Role in a Musical all to yourself! Absolutely diabolical and I am here for it. Way to bring the drama to the 2020 Tony Nominations which were announced this morning. Due to the coronavirus, the Broadway season was cut short, making Moulin Rouge, in which Aaron starred, one of only three musicals eligible for nomination this year. The other two were the Alanis Morissette musical Jagged Little Pill and Tina: The Tina Turner Musical which only starred ladies for some reason.
