Katy Perry Posted A Voting Booth Selfie That Showed Her Vote For Mayor Of Los Angeles

There’s a reason they give you those cute little “I Voted” stickers at the polls, and it’s so you can show the world that you are an informed, responsible, civic-minded individual who has participated in the sacred act of democratic agency upon which our country was built (citation needed), without letting them know that you just copied your husband’s ballot at the 11th hour because you’re a lazy dum-dum who couldn’t get their shit together in time. Now, I don’t know if Katy Perry’s husband Orlando Bloom is the lazy dum-dum in their family or if Katy’s just an ambitious dum-dum. Because Katy got out and voted, but instead of posting a cute ‘lil selfie with her sticker, she took a selfie inside the voting booth that managed to show her entire ass, including who she voted for.

According to Newsweek, taking photos inside polling stations is illegal in many states, but California is not one of them. So while Katy didn’t break the law, she did break ranks with many Los Angeleno Democrats by siding with Chris Pratt and voting billionaire property developer and “law-and-order” candidate Rick Caruso for Mayor.

Katy Perry revealed she voted for Rick Caruso in the Los Angeles mayoral election because the city “is a hot mess.”

But the singer has come under fire for posting a selfie from the voting booth showing her votes for both the general election and Proposition 28.

If successful, Prop 28 would see an extra $1 billion of arts education funding poured into all K–12 public schools annually.

In the Instagram post, she shared another photo that showed she voted ‘yes’ to Prop 28, as well as an image of her jumping for joy outside the polling station in denim coveralls.

“I am voting for a myriad of reasons (see the news) but in particular because Los Angeles is a hot mess atm. #letsgocaruso #yestomeasure28 #yestomeasure1 #doyoubutjustuseyourvoteok🇺🇸,” Perry captioned the Instagram post.

Here’s Katy’s post on which she’s turned off the comments, for a myriad of reasons.

See, now, a sticker will not tell on you like that! Katy should have just copied Orlando’s ballot and mailed that shit in. That way, nobody would ever have to know that they both voted for brain octane oil” and a little stick figure of a poodle as write-in candidates for Mayor.

Perry was soon trending on Twitter with more than 20,000 tweets appearing with her name in them.

People were quick to criticize Perry for posting photos in the polling booth and questioned whether it was legal to do so.

“Katy Perry must not agree with his [Caruso’s] anti crime policy. Taking photos in a polling place is illegal,” wrote Twitter user, suebrown1212.

While LeonPaws_FFXIV also questioned: “I thought it was illegal to take pictures of your ballot in the booth?”

“Isn’t this photo she took quite illegal? Or does it vary by state haha,” asked TwerculesT.

The right to cast a secret ballot has been a cornerstone of the U.S. voting system for years, and many states banned cameras in polling stations both as a matter of privacy and to maintain an efficient voting process.

As previously mentioned, in California it’s perfectly legal to take a selfie in the voting booth and has been since 2017 when a “measure to prevent vote buying or voter coercion,” was passed into law. So Katy was well within her rights to let you know that she shares similar values with Elon Musk, Kim Kardashian, Gwyneth Paltrow, Snoop Dogg, and Worst Garfield/Mario/Chris!
