R. Kelly’s Lawyers Are Trying Again To Get Him Released From Prison Over His Jailhouse Attack

R. Kelly‘s lawyers are back in the ring, but they’re taking a timeout from having to defend their client against mountains of video evidence supporting the allegations against him that he’s a predator of young girls. His lawyers are instead focusing on getting R. Kelly released ahead of his trial, once again harping on that one time he got roughed up in jail.
R. Kelly is currently in jail in Chicago while waiting to go to court to answer to the charges of aggravated criminal sexual assault and sex with minors. He’s pleaded not guilty to all charges and his lawyers have been trying to get him released from jail ever since, but the request has been denied and denied again. R. Kelly is also facing more charges in Minnesota and New York.
Back in August, R. Kelly got beat up by another inmate, Jeremiah Farmer, at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago. The attack did not get R. Kelly immediately whisked out of jail and into his Trump Tower apartment, but his lawyers are still trying it. CNN says that his legal team got hold of prison footage and claim the video shows a disregard for R. Kelly’s safety from prison staff. They argue that the video is proof enough that there should be a hearing over his safety:
Kelly’s attorneys claim the video shows the attacker “roamed a great distance within the MCC before carrying out that act, without any opposition. It is undisputed that, as a result, Mr. Kelly has suffered significant physical and psychological injuries.”
“An unresolved issue remains as to whether MCC personnel encouraged, and then allowed, a beating of Mr. Kelly to take place,” wrote Michael Leonard, a lawyer for R. Kelly. “That alone merits an evidentiary hearing.”
R. Kelly’s bail has been denied a few times and one of the reasons was because the prosecution is afraid he will intimidate witnesses. And three of his associates were arrested for witness tampering, so R. Kelly will probably stay in jail regardless of the video of his beatdown.
So R. Kelly has been mentally traumatized over his jail ass-whooping and is crying about it. I would say that I feel sorry for him but my sympathy is reserved for all the victims who are suffering and traumatized because of him. In the wise words of philosopher Bernice Starnes, “I’m supposed to feel sorry for that bitch?”
