Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Have Reportedly Canceled Archie’s Celebrity-Filled First Birthday Party

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have a big reason to celebrate next month. Their son Archie Mountbatten-Windsor’s first birthday is on May 6th. Sadly, he won’t get the big, fancy first birthday party of his (or his parents’) dreams. According to The Daily Mail, Archie’s birthday party has been canceled due to the coronavirus.

Sources tell The Daily Mail that Harry and Meghan hoped to combine Archie’s 1st birthday with a “Welcome to LA” party for themselves. But last Friday, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti extended the shelter in place order to May 15th, with some predicting it will be extended even longer. So the joint party has been canceled. And that’s really a shame, because Archie is the child of rich parents, and one parent with Hollywood connections. The guest list for Archie’s Los Angeles party sounds like the VIP section of the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party.

Harry and Meghan have a long list of celebrity friends, many of which will have been on the invite list for the bash. They include James Corden, Ellen DeGeneres, Oprah Winfrey, Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, Serena Williams, Elton John, and George and Amal Clooney. Meghan’s school friend Katherine McPhee, who lives in LA with Grammy winning music producer husband David Foster, will also have been invited.

“As special as Archie turning one is, now is the time to take safety more seriously than ever,” the source said
But they admitted: “It’s a shame because Archie’s birthday, without the lockdown, offered the perfect opportunity to host a welcome to LA bash.”

It’s true, it would have been the perfect event. Especially since Meghan is no longer a working royal, which means she no longer has to worry about British taxpayers side-eyeing how much money was spent on her party. Just think about how they could have splashed out? And yes, I know Harry and Meghan allegedly want to raise Archie as normal as possible. But they’re also Los Angeles parents now. And I’m pretty sure that if they want Archie to have a regular kid life in LA, they’re legally required to drop several thousands of dollars on a miniature child-sized white Mercedes Benz that he’ll inevitably drive into a potted plant.

Although for right now, any miniature car shopping will have to wait. Because Entertainment Tonight is reporting that Harry and Meghan are keeping busy by delivering meals around the city for charity.

ET has learned that the duchess was aware of Project Angel Food’s work from growing up in the area and has always been inspired by the incredible impact they have on the community. Her mom, Doria Ragland, who is a frontline worker herself, had mentioned that they were in great need of support during this unprecedented time.

Richard Ayoub, the Executive Director of Project Angel Food, confirmed the news, saying he was “thrilled” to have Harry and Meghan working with them. Their first food run was on Easter Sunday, and they asked to volunteer again yesterday. Harry and Meghan reportedly delivered meals to 20 Project Angel Food clients yesterday. ET adds that Harry and Meghan made sure to maintain social distancing rules, and wore masks, gloves, and other pieces of PPE. I’m sure they kept a minimum of six feet away at all times. But I’m sure that there was at least one person willing to break any and all social distancing rules the minute they heard Prince Harry announce: “Your meal has arrived!
