Ben Platt Says The Reaction To Him In “Dear Evan Hansen” Ran Him Off Twitter

November 2, 2022 / Posted by:

Last year, Twitter dragged the movie version of Dear Evan Hansen, and went in on how Ben Platt played a teenage boy who did NOT suffer from Benjamin Button syndrome even though he looked much older than high school age. At the time, Ben Platt responded to the hate, calling it “randos being jerks” on Twitter. And now, Ben reveals that the treatment actually ran him off Twitter, and he learned at that time that Twitter was actually very mean. WHAT!? Twitter is a cesspool of anonymous people making outrageously offensive remarks?! I am shocked! Next, you’ll tell me that when Elon Musk officially bought Twitter, the use of slurs jumped 500%! I will not believe you!

“Dear Evan Hansen” Is Still Getting Dragged By Critics

September 24, 2021 / Posted by:

Dear Evan Hansen premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this month, and the reviews were mostly mixed. But since it came out today, more reviews have been released and most critics hate it as much as whoever did Ben Platt’s hair in the movie hates him (no, that’s not a wig). Dear Evan Hansen has been ripped a new one by film critics who called the movie one of the “worst movie musicals ever made” and described 27-year-old Ben Platt‘s performance as a teenager as an “obviously grown man just hunching his shoulders.” Not since Cats….

The First Reviews For “Dear Evan Hansen” Are Mixed

September 10, 2021 / Posted by:

The first trailer for the film adaptation of Dear Evan Hansen had barely hit the internet when people began roasting it like a marshmallow, mostly cracking jokes about how the film’s star, 27-year-old Ben Platt, looked more like he should be playing a grown man stressed out about missing a mortgage payment than a high school student. Ben Platt slapped back, saying that adult actors have been playing teens forever, and people need to get over it. So with that mindset, people should go into a viewing of the film and accept it for what it is based on the story and songs and production. And according to some recent reviews, those parts of the movie aren’t great either. Then again, some people that saw it don’t think it’s that bad.

Ben Platt Thinks That The “Dear Evan Hansen” Movie Would’ve Never Been Made Without Him

August 9, 2021 / Posted by:

Ben Platt has been with Dear Evan Hansen since the beginning from workshops in 2014 to starring in it on Broadway in 2016, which got him the Tony for Best Leading Actor in a Musical at the tender age of 23. As we know, acclaimed things that aren’t movies will eventually be made into a movie. 27-year-old Ben reprised his role as 17-year-old Evan Hansen in the movie version that comes out on September 24. While us “randos being jerks” may have been rolling on our floors laughing at this Inception-level stretch of our imaginations that this obvious man was a teenager, Ben has come out to say that he basically had to be the one to play this role (in the movie which is being produced by his father). Because if he didn’t, Dear Evan Hansen would never have been made! …And what would have been the problem with that?

Ben Platt Suggests That “Randos Being Jerks” About Him Playing A Teen Should Watch “Grease”

May 20, 2021 / Posted by:

I just got called a “rando” by Ben Platt. That’s a cap in my feather I didn’t know I needed but I’ll take it! When the trailer for Dear Evan Hansen came out earlier this week, chuckleheads like myself poked fun at 27-year-old Ben trying to pass for a 17-year-old high school student. And also his Curly Sue locks. Well, Ben didn’t appreciate that. According to Variety, Ben tweeted then deleted a message thanking fans for their support but added “PS to the randos being jerks about age, read this great article and/or watch grease.” The article in question is from a Vanity Fair interview in which he explains what it took for him to pull on Evan’s signature polo shirt and arm cast again. And  apparently, Ben grew that hair himself and I called it a wig. Oops, my bad!
