Mackenzie Scott Donated $85 Million To Girl Scouts Of The USA, Breaking A Record

Going through a divorce can be stressful, so I can understand why MacKenzie Scott might be hoarding boxes of Samoas and Thin Mints in her freezer, but with $84.5 million dollars worth of cookies, she’s gonna need an entire temperature-controlled warehouse to store them. Of course, by my logic, that means that MacKenzie was hoarding lesbians, Black people, affordable housing, and icebergs in the wake of her divorce from Jeff Bezos, so maybe Mackenzie just made the single largest individual donation to Girl Scouts of the USA because she cares.

Mackenzie hasn’t let her low-key divorce from Daniel Jewett, her kids’ former science teacher, slow her roll when it comes to charitable giving. Mac (I’m sure she won’t mind my familiarity. Hey girl, HMU, let’s hang! Lemme get some of those cookies, nom, nom, nom) filed for divorce last month after just a year and a half. And in between marriages, she’s managed to donate “more than $3.8 billion to 465 non-profit organizations,” per NBC News. And she still has $17 billion more to give if she fulfills her pledge to spread all the love she can before she dies. Yes, sadly, in this economy, love = net worth. MacKenzie’s latest donation is the biggest single donation in Girls Scouts’ history.

Billionaire philanthropist MacKenzie Scott has donated $84.5 million to the Girl Scouts, the organization said Tuesday.

The gift from Scott, 52, who was previously married to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, marks the largest-ever single donation in the organization’s history, the group said.

The Bloomberg Billionaires Index, a daily ranking of the 500 wealthiest people in the world, estimates Scott’s net worth to be $27.6 billion, making her the 41st richest person in the world. After splitting from Bezos in 2019, she pledged to give roughly half of her more than $35 billion away to charities.

Scott’s gift will go to Girl Scouts of the USA and 29 local councils that Scott selected, according to a news release from the organization.

The money will specifically go toward creating “more equitable membership opportunities” in underserved areas; expanding programming on career readiness, mental health and exploring STEM fields; bolstering research, staff and volunteer training; and upgrading Girl Scout facilities to be more accessible and resilient to climate change, among other things, according to the news release.

Mac may be a fantastic philanthropist but those kids she’s helping still smoke her ass when it comes to the hustle. Apparently, Girl Scouts sell approximately $800,000,000 (EIGHT!HUNDRED!MILLION!DOLLHAIRS!) worth of cookies per season. As in – every year. As in – how many of you hookers keep getting divorced?!?
