MacKenzie Scott Donated $436 Million To Habitat For Humanity
MacKenzie Scott is continuing to donate large chunks of her fortune to good causes while her billionaire ex-husband Jeff Bezos sends celebrities to space on his dick rocket and causes bridges to be taken apart so that his $500 million superyacht can get to him. Most recently, MacKenzie donated $2.74 billion to arts programs that help combat racism, and now she’s donated $436 million to Habitat for Humanity so they can help boost affordable housing and Black homeownership.
CNN says that MacKenzie is close to totaling $9 billion in donations since 2019 when she and Jeff divorced and she reportedly got around $36 billion in a divorce settlement as well as a 4% share in Amazon. Forbes lists her as worth $49 billion as of Tuesday. While MacKenzie actually gave her donation to Habitat for Humanity in February, the organization only recently announced it.
It will be used to accelerate Habitat for Humanity’s efforts to promote homeownership in Black and minority communities, Natosha Reid Rice, Habitat’s chief global diversity, equity and inclusion officer, said in a press release.
“We look forward to bringing diverse groups of people together to focus on the ways we can address systemic racism and injustices in the housing sector that continue to limit access and harm people of color.”
Some of the funds would be used to diversify the organization’s volunteer base, she said. The gift was made in February and left up to the recipient to announce. A representative for Scott could not be reached for comment.
