America’s Next Top Model first debuted in 2003 and there have been 24 seasons of it since then. Tyra Banks hosted and was the head judge for all but one season. And since the internet has the time during this lockdown, some have been watching old seasons of ANTM and are just realizing that it was a mess. So Tyra trended on Twitter from people getting outraged over the vintage messiness. And they weren’t just mad about that time she gave a guy a “beard weave“. They brought up colorism, blackface, and just a plethora of disrespect. I mean, yeah, that was the whole show. Tyra was the type to shave a trick bald and then send her ass home the next day. No fucks given.

It’s finally happening! The #TheUpRiXing is upon us, let us feast on the souls of the The Bored and bathe in the blood of the gatekeepers of beauty. In the name of *checks notes* Tookie De La Crème, let us rejoice. Tickets are now on sale for Tyra Bank’s long ballyhooed Modelland. We were promised fantasy, wizardry and pizzaz! We were promised a narrative, an incoherent and demented one to be sure, but a narrative all the same. Glamour, yeah, we were promised that too. But that’s not what we’re getting. Judging by Modelland’s announcement on Instagram, what we’re getting is lazy waacking and lots of shouting in an unfinished warehouse space. Worst of all is the price tag. It’s gonna cost you $59 just to walk through the door. And Tyra still hasn’t even shown us what’s behind door #1. I have a feeling it’s a card table stacked with a bunch of unsold copies of Tyra’s self-published book.
Tyra Banks Has Finally Explained What “Modelland” Is All About
Finally, on a recent appearances on both The View and The Talk, Tyra Banks has fleshed out the details of her forthcoming “attraction” called Modelland (via Jezebel). Forget what you’ve previously pictured. Modelland is not a theme park, it’s more like a carnival of nightmares, but make it fashion. From Tyra’s description, Modelland sounds like the physical manifestation of her psyche that is the result of her working through some things that you or I might discus with our therapist instead of creating “a first-of-its-kind story driven attraction, combining the universes of beauty, fashion, shopping, and theatre.” We can’t all be visionaries.
On The Talk, Tyra said that Modelland is “Harry Potter meets the modeling industry” with a little Wakanda thrown in there and is based on her self-published YA novel (576 pages!) of the same name. Modelland is set in an “alternate universe” and visitors are encouraged to join the #TheUpRiXing led by “Tookie De La Crème, and her squad of atypical beauty rebels.” At Modelland, one can rail against rigid beauty standards while taking selfies and enjoying some Smize Cream.
