Open Post: Hosted By Jennifer Hudson Defending The “Misunderstood” Movie Version Of “Cats”

It seems that Jennifer Hudson thinks that Cats wasn’t a psychedelic vacation to a Bizzaro furry hellscape. Instead, JHud suggested that the movie which critics hated and lost millions was simply ahead of its time. Jennifer thinks one day the “misunderstood” Cats will be seen “differently,” like many a cult classic. If she’s thinking a “cult of inhuman furries,” then sure.

Vanity Fair says that Jennifer decided to defend her film which has a cool 19% on Rotten Tomatoes. She said that the acid trip into Dante’s In-Furr-No wasn’t bad it was “overwhelming.” Overwhelming is accurate, I could not stop being overwhelmed for the full duration of the movie. Every scene was more ocularly aggressive and sonically harassing than the last. I felt personally attacked by the end when Dame Judi Dench turned to the camera and sang at me for four minutes. But here’s Jennifer’s take:

“You know what? I think it was a bit overwhelming. It’s unfortunate that it was misunderstood. I think later down the line, people will see it differently. But it is something I am still very proud of and grateful to have been a part of. Yeah, I got to be Grizabella the Glamour Cat!”

This!?

But to be fair, Vanity Fair pointed out that Stephen Colbert made a Cats reference on his show recently, so we’re still talking about the movie, that’s for sure. His joke is at the 5:52 mark:

Now that Stephen’s said it can we please get the butthole version? I know that as I see it I’ll want to un-see it, but that’s my choice!

I don’t know what Jennifer is talking about. I think that Cats was noted for all its accolades already. I mean they had so many Razzie nominations–such accreditation comes once in a lifetime! But honestly, Kate Beckinsale puts in more consistent and believable performances of a cat than anybody in this film did.
