The 2020 Razzie Nominations Are Out––And “Cats” Was Not Snubbed

February 9, 2020 / Posted by:

The nominations for the 2020 Golden Raspberry Awards have been announced, meaning that this year’s batch of unwatchable films and performances have been scooped and sifted from the litterbox and thrust back into the spotlight for one final evening before hopefully being flushed away forever.

To literally no one’s surprise, Cats led the nominations list, tying Rambo: Last Blood and A Madea Family Funeral, with eight disgraceful nods––guess those improved visual effects failed to disguise the fact that at the end of the day people were actually expected to pay money and enjoy watching a movie featuring an anaconda-less Jason Derulo, Taylor Swift (who didn’t even wear ONE beautiful gown) and a totally normal James Corden, in terrifying––and terrifyingly shitty––cat costumes.

Dame Judi Dench, who acted her little heart out while trying to become a feline-trans icon (and, as expected, fucking it up in the process), could potentially bring home a Worst Supporting Actress trophy. Although, if she wins, she probably won’t display it next to her Oscar, Tony, and Golden Globe awards…maybe on a little side table, next to a bowl of toffee candies.

Of course, Cats wasn’t the only stale turd in the popcorn box this year. Tyler Perry, and his continually tortured and complex portrayal of Madea, also scored big, including three acting nods for Tyler himself. He even got a nomination for Worst Screen Combo for playing himself alongside any other character that was also himself. AND! he got yet another nod for Worst Screenplay (which is totally fine, because he doesn’t need a writer). I know that the Oscar judges get a lot of shit for doing the bare minimum, but can you imagine being responsible for picking the worst version of Tyler Perry in a single Madea movie?

Other names on the 2020 ballot include Worst Actress nominee Hilary Duff, for playing her (low-budget) version of Sharon Tate; Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson, for playing their (low budget) version of hustlers, and…a bunch of other names you’ve definitely seen here before.

Here’s the complete list below. Take a Gravol, scan the names for a few laughs, and then go have a lie-down and hope for better things in 2021.
